Netskope Receives Certification for EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework

LOS ALTOS, Calif., March 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Netskope, the leader in cloud security, today announced that it has received certification approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration (ITA) for the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework program. The company also announced its participation in TRUSTe's privacy certification program, an independent resource mechanism for handling reports and disputes.

The EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework was designed by the European Commission and the U.S. Department of Commerce to provide companies on both sides of the Atlantic with a mechanism to comply with data protection requirements when transferring personal data from the European Union to the United States for commercial purposes.

Netskope is the only cloud access security broker (CASB) to provide enterprises with unparalleled visibility and real-time control for all cloud services, whether sanctioned or unsanctioned. Using patented technology, Netskope provides context-aware governance of all cloud usage in real time, whether accessed from the corporate network, remotely, or even from a mobile app or sync client. This ensures that all personal data in transit in the cloud is protected and secure.

With this certification, TRUSTe and the Department of Commerce hve acknowledged that Netskope's practices are compliant with the Privacy Shield Principles, which cover a range of requirements including: Notice (company must reveal its participation in the Privacy Shield), Choice (individuals can opt out of disclosing their personal information to a third party), Accountability for Onward Transfer (company must transfer personal data only for limited and specified purposes), Security (personal information is protected against risks), Data Integrity and Purpose Limitation (personal information is limited to the information that is relevant for the purposes of processing), Access (individuals must have access to personal information about them that an organization holds), and Recourse, Enforcement and Liability (effective privacy protection must include robust mechanisms for ensuring compliance with the principles).

"Netskope is dedicated to bringing the highest form of protection to our customers," said Sanjay Beri, co-founder and CEO of Netskope. "Receiving the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework Certification reinforces our commitment to protect the data of every Netskope user, no matter where in the world they reside. As we continue to serve our global customer base, we will remain diligent in maintaining our high-standard of data management, privacy and protection in the cloud."

The EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework certification arrives just shy of one year before the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) goes into effect in 2018, which requires even higher standards of data privacy and governance. Through adhering to the Privacy Shield Principles, Netskope is taking necessary steps to help its customers work toward GDPR compliance.
