The World Zionist Organization Invites Jewish Young Adults to Experience Jerusalem in an Initiative Marking 50 Years since Jerusalem's Unification: 'L'Chaim Yerushalayim'

The World Zionist Organization is celebrating 50 years since the unification of Jerusalem by inviting young people from around the world to visit and create their own experience of Israel's historic capital, as part of a new initiative: 'L'Chaim Yerushalayim'.

The project, which will take place in May (21-28.05.17), invites young adults ages 18-30 from Jewish communities around the world, to attend in groups or as individuals. The objective of 'L'Chaim Yerushalayim' is to allow Jewish young adults worldwide the opportunity to get a glimpse of real life in Israel- to experience their homeland not as tourists, but as Israelis. The World Zionist Organization will arrange for participants to stay with host families all around Israel, who will facilitate their journey as well as experience Jerusalem and Israel through the young visitors' eyes.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage, the Ministry of Culture and Sport and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the World Zionist Organization will also offer a wide range of free or discounte events for the young visitors to choose from, enabling them to construct a custom-made experience of the historical, multicultural and colorful Jerusalem. These will comprise of cultural events, culinary tours, visits to heritage sites, performances, meetings, and advocacy conferences. Examples include 'A Night Spectacular' light and sound show, a Jerusalem Day memorial ceremony at Mount Herzl, the 'Flag Dance' Jerusalem Day parade from the Knesset to the Western Wall, a chance to visit the Machane Yehuda open-air market, the Old City, Mount Scopus and much more.

Yaakov Hagoel, Vice Chairman of the World Zionist Organization: "The 50th anniversary of its unification gives cause to reflect on the true beauty of Jerusalem- a symbol of Jewish pride, freedom and unification. In the face of escalating Antisemitism worldwide, we must always remain unified and celebrate our Jewish heritage. Our new initiative, 'L'Chaim Yerushalayim', will provide the leaders of the next generation with the tools to forge their own experience of Jerusalem, connect with Jewish young adults from Israel and around the world and rejoice in commemorating the historical unification of the Jewish capital."
