Wowza Expands Developer Resources and Announces Third-Party Connection to Unity® Platform
Today at the 2017 Game Developers Conference, Wowza™
Media Systems™ announced a number of new developer tools, including
a new plugin for Unity®
software that enables connections to Wowza
GoCoder™. The plugin allows gamers and developers to use Unity's
in-game first-person-view camera to stream live video from any Made with
Unity application, which could include VR and AR experiences, panoramic
360° experiences, and more. Developed by Oxagile
as part of the 2016
Wowza GoCoder SDK Development Challenge, the plugin has been
submitted by Oxagile as open-source software on GitHub for easy
implementation into development environments.
"One of the biggest streaming challenges for the gaming and mobile
community has been the reliance on extra encoders and software," said Mike
Talvensaari, VP of Product at Wowza (News - Alert) Media Systems. "These
third-party applications end up reducing computing resources, and can
often impact the gaming experience, especially for mobile gamers. Now,
with this plugin, application developers have an easy way to integrate
GoCoder live streaming functionality into their workflows, enabling live
audio video content to be streamed from Unity® software-based games
across PCs, consoles, and mobile devices."
"From a developer's standpoint, Wowza products offer many benefits,
including out-of-the-box enterprise-grade scalability, flexibility, and
seamless multi-screen delivery," said Sergey Marchuk, CTO of Oxagile.
"We love the Wowza GoCoder SDK, as it greatly facilitates the design,
building, and implementation of custom streaming apps for iOS and
Android (News - Alert). Together with our plugin, the Wowza GoCoder SDK is able to
deliver maximum value to Unity developers and the expanding audience of
gamers worldwide."
Wowza API and SDK Enhancements Wowza continues to be the
leading platform to build live streaming applications, delivering robust
APIs and support. To support its community of deelopers, Wowza has
announced new updates to provide additional monitoring capabilities and
greater resiliency to its GoCoder SDK, Wowza
Streaming Engine™ software, and Wowza
Streaming Cloud™ APIs. These updates include:
-
Stream Reliably with GoCoder SDK 1.5 (In Preview)
-
Improved adaptive bitrate (ABR) encoding to help customers
broadcast in any network conditions.
-
Includes bidirectional metadata and event framework to create
live-chat applications.
-
A new low latency playback built on the Wowza WOWZ™ protocol that
improves speed and stability of content delivery.
-
Enhanced Wowza Streaming Cloud API
-
Improved development API Sandbox Environment, giving developers
the ability to rapidly deploy, test and make changes, without
incurring usage charges or impacting production workflows
-
Improved HLS streaming capabilities:
-
Streamers can dynamically switch between HTTP and HTTPS
streams, sending SSL as an HLS Push stream target from Wowza
Streaming Cloud for end-to-end secure HLS streaming
-
Assign relative playlists for HLS push stream targets
-
Improved ability to relocate existing transcoder instances and
receive status updates on transcoder health for workflow fine
tuning.
-
Wowza Streaming Engine Available on more Cloud Computing
Infrastructures
-
Docker Container - Docker expands the universe of cloud
providers that users can choose, delivering an image for deploying
Wowza Streaming Engine as a container, rather than a virtual
machine or bare metal. By sharing an underlying OS and Kernel,
containers enable more dense/efficient scaling, are more
developer-friendly with shorter instance spin-up/down time.
-
Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (News - Alert) - Developers
deploying on Microsoft Azure or AWS can also consolidate their
licensing by purchasing Wowza Streaming Engine directly through
both the Azure and Amazon Marketplaces. Additionally, Wowza
Streaming Engine is now available in India AWS POPs for regional
deployments and development teams.
Expanding the Wowza <DEV> Community
-
Updated GitHub and Stack Overflow Repositories
-
Wowza has further extended its commitment to supporting the
community with new open source and royalty-free tools and code
examples. These are available in the Wowza GitHub
repositories.
-
Improved Documentation
-
Wowza has now launched a new documentation tool that migrates over
8,000 support documents and inquiries to a new feature-rich
platform, that allows users to perform question-and-answer type
searches. The community-driven tool also allows users to vote upon
best answers, and provides greater ability to troubleshoot issues.
-
#Livestreaming Slack
-
As more developers are coming together to share tips, and
troubleshoot issues together, Wowza launched the #livestreaming
Slack channel. Since its launch, the community has grown to
include over 1,000 developers and streaming experts, discussing
topics ranging from WebRTC and VR, to protocols and low-latency
streaming options. To join the channel, visit http://live-streaming.slack.com.
