$16K Grant Helps Provide Access to Free Tutoring for At-Risk Students

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) and First National Bank of Louisiana will award $16,000 in Partnership Grant Program (PGP (News - Alert)) funds to Empowering the Community for Excellence (ETCFE), a free, community-based, after-school tutoring program providing academic assistance to students in grades 1-5. The grant funds will be used for operating expenses.

The check presentation will take place at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 27, 2017, at ETCFE Center, 304 Hutchinson Avenue, Crowley, Louisiana 70526. The media is encouraged to attend.

The structure of the PGP allows FHLB Dallas member institutions like First National Bank of Louisiana to make a contribution of $500 to $4,000 to a community-based organization (CBO), which FHLB Dallas will match at a 3:1 ratio.

ETCFE was founded by Audrey Spencer, a retired educator. The program's mission is to tutor underprivileged students who are at-risk for academic failure, while providing an environment to enhance students' confidence, responsibility and motivation as part of the learning experience.
