James Beard Winning Chef Rick Bayless Partners with Craftsy to Teach Online Mexican Cooking Class in "Culinary All-Stars" Series

DENVER, Jan. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Craftsy, the online education community where more than 10 million users learn, create and share their passions, today announced the addition of New York Times bestselling author and seven-time James Beard award-winning chef Rick Bayless to its successful "Culinary All-Stars" series. With a focus on south-of-the-border staples like salsas and guacamole to tacos, tamales and a classic mole sauce, Bayless brings his passion for authentic Mexican cuisine directly to your kitchen.

Launched last summer, Craftsy's "Culinary All-Stars" series features nine unique online classes hosted by a curated line-up of celebrity chefs, Food Network stars, and James Beard award winners. Cooking enthusiasts can learn straight from some of their favorite food stars, on their own time and in the comfort of their own homes. All classes include a collection of complete recipes, and Craftsy's unique online class platform allows direct instructor access – so asking questions is as easy as sending an email.

"Mexican cuisine captured my heart from an early age and ultimately inspired my entire life's work," Bayless said. "Teaching others the art of Mexican cooking has always been a passion. When Craftsy asked me to partner with them on a course, I jumped at the opportunity. Through this class, I want aspiring home chefs to learn the fundamental techniques behind the cuisine and to be inspired by the fresh and layered flavors that make up some of the most classic and beloved dishes of Mexico."

Filmed right in his Chicago home kitchen, Bayless' three-hour class, which comes with over 15 recipes, will show students how to prepare authentic Mexican cuisine, including lessons on homemade tortillas and salsas, tacos three ways, guacamole and ceviche, tamales and a red mole sauce.

"Craftsy was founded to provide accessible, high-quality online content for those interested in pursuing creative education from the comfort of their own homes," said John Levisay, co-founder and CEO of Craftsy. "That's still our driving principle today, and the success of the "Culinary All-Stars" is a testament to how we have continued to evolve through partnerships with some of the most talented chefs, like Rick. His expertise and engaging personality are highly regarded in the culinary world, and it's our privilege to offer a personal experience with Rick to our users."

Bayless first studied regional Mexican cooking as an undergraduate student of Spanish and Latin American culture at the University of Oklahoma. He went on to host the 26-part PBS series Cooking Mexican in 1978 and 1979 and spent more than six years living in the country while researching his first cookbook, Authentic Mexican: Regional Cooking from the Heart of Mexico.

Today, Bayless is the esteemed author of nine cookbooks, including Mexican Kitchen, winner of the 1996 Julia Child IACP 'Cookbook of the Year' award, and Mexico–One Plate at a Time, which won the James Beard 'Best International Cookbook of the Year' award in 2001. Additionally, the Chicago-based chef now owns multiple restaurants across the U.S., including the popular Frontera Grill, which spawned an award-winning line of eponymous salsas, cooking sauces and organic chips sold widely from coast to coast. He also hosts the hit PBS television series Mexico: One Plate at a Time, for which he earned a Daytime Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Lifestyle/Culinary Host.
