Vernier Software & Technology Works with Google to Expand the Collection of Scientific Data on Mobile Devices

BEAVERTON, Ore., Jan. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As part of their shared vision for encouraging scientific discovery and inspiring students to understand the world around them, Vernier Software & Technology is working with Google to expand the availability of software that can graph scientific and engineering data on mobile devices. Science and STEM students can now use Vernier sensors to collect and graph data in real time within Google's Science Journal app on Google Play for Androidâ„¢ devices.

"As the first probeware company to provide support for data-collection technology within the Science Journal app, we believe that mobile devices can play a pivotal role in engaging students in hands-on scientific learning," said John Wheeler, CEO of Vernier Software & Technology. "Now students can further utilize mobile devices in science and STEM classrooms by using Science Journal with one of our sensors to collect and analyze data as they learn important science and engineering concepts."

To begin the data-collection process, students launch the app on an Android device and then connect one of over 45 supported Vernier sensors to wirelessly stream and reord data, such as temperature, pressure, pH, heart rate, and more. With Science Journal, students can organize their ideas into projects, make predictions, collect data in multiple trials, take notes, upload images from the experiment, and annotate results.

Science Journal, which is free to download in the Google Play store, requires Android 4.4 or newer. Available as a free download, the Vernier Graphical Analysisâ„¢ app 3.1.1 or newer must be installed in addition to Science Journal.
