The Sixth Annual 2017 Shale Gas Innovation Contest is Accepting Applications!


There's still plenty of time left for innovators in Pennsylvania to submit their application to the Sixth Annual Ben Franklin Shale Gas Innovation and Commercialization Center's Shale Gas Innovation Contest. This year three winners will each receive a check for $20,000. Small businesses, researchers, or entrepreneurs in Pennsylvania with new products or services that are either in the development stage or recently launched with applicability to the oil and gas industry are eligible.

Successful applicants can gain exposure to investors, potential partners, and industry sponsors at the Finals' Event scheduled to take place on May 9, 2017, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Southpointe, PA. The keynote address will highlight the opportunities presented through the rapidly advancing Industrial Internet of Things (IoT). Rich Hufnagel, an IoT Specialist from Verizon Wireless (News - Alert), will share how rapidly advancing sensor technologies, combined with network connectivity that provides constant communication with products and machinery,expands B2B opportunities.

The Finals' Event will also include a reception where exhibitors will display innovative O&G focused new technologies, including posters highlighting some of the most promising technologies under development at Carnegie Mellon and Penn State Universities. The Sixth Annual Shale Gas Innovation Contest's GOLD Sponsor is Ben Franklin Technology Partners. Industry sponsors include: AquaTech, Chevron Technology Ventures, EQT Corporation, Fluid Recovery SystemsLPR Energy, LPR Land Services, the Marcellus Shale Coalition, Praxair, Range ResourcesSteptoe & Johnson PLLC, and Williams. Non-Profit sponsors include: Carnegie Mellon University's Scott Institute for Energy Innovation, and the Penn State University's Institute for Natural Gas Research.



Entering the competition is easy, requiring the completion of the simple online application. Any idea or already commercialized product or service related to the oil and gas industry is eligible. Examples include well pad EH&S products or services, novel materials or chemicals to enhance performance or prevent corrosion/improve product yield, remote site monitoring technologies, natural gas or NGL use or conversion technologies, and water management or remediation technologies.
