Honda, Toyota Dominate Inaugural Edmunds Most Wanted Awards

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Edmunds, the leading car shopping and information platform, today announced the winners of its inaugural Edmunds Most Wanted awards. This is a data-derived and Edmunds expert-validated honor that recognizes the vehicles that are the most coveted in their segments. It's one of the only awards in the industry that combines market factors (sales, days-to-turn and shopper interest) with editorial opinion, providing a comprehensive picture of a vehicle's overall desirability.

"The Edmunds Most Wanted designation gives car shoppers assurance that both other buyers and Edmunds' experts believe these vehicles are a smart choice," said Jessica Caldwell, Edmunds executive director of industry analysis.

Sixteen vehicles were recognized with 2017 Edmunds Most Wanted awards, one winner per vehicle segment. Honda won the most awards, with the Civic, CR-V, Accord and Pilot receiving 2017 Edmunds Most Wanted awards in the Compact Car, Compact SUV, Midsize car and Midsize SUV segments, respectively. In addition, Honda's Acura MDX was recognized as the 2017 Edmunds Most Wanted award winner in the Luxury Midsize SUV category. Toyota and Lexus walked away with two awards each – Toyota for the Sienna and Avalon, and Lexus for the RX 350 and ES 350. Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac, Ford, Audi, Porsche, Chevrolet and Dodge won one award each.

The 2017 Edmunds Most Wanted award winner for each of the 16 segments was determined by first analyzing data from the first ten months of 2016 for all models on sale during all of that period to identify which models had (for its segment) the highest levels of two types of shopper consideration based on Edmunds site activity, the highest sales and the lowest average days-to-turn. The rankings for each of these data sets were weighted equally to determine the finalists in each segment.  Edmunds editorial team then independently ranked the finalists based on their expert opinions.  Finally, Edmunds took the average of the data rankings and the Editorial ranking to determine the winners.  These are the vehicles Edmunds would most recommend to car shoppers.
