DSP Group to Provide Ooma with Technology for New Smart Home Monitoring ServiceUltra-Low Energy Chipsets from DSP Group Facilitate Connectivity for New Home Monitoring System, Including Door/Window, Motion and Water Sensors LAS VEGAS, Jan. 05, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DSP Group®, Inc. (NASDAQ:DSPG), a leading global provider of wireless chipset solutions for converged communications announced that Ooma, Inc. (NYSE:OOMA), a smart communications platform for small businesses and consumers, will use DSP Group’s advanced Ultra-Low Energy (ULE) system-on-chips (SoCs) to power its new smart home monitoring system. Ooma’s new smart home monitoring service includes door/window, motion and water sensors that securely connect to the Ooma Telo smart home phone system and are configured and controlled using an app for iOS and Android devices. “We are excited to work together with a partner like Ooma whose business model is built on high-quality communications and other connected services; we are also thrilled that Ooma chose our ULE technology to drive its smart home monitoring system," said Jan Abelev, Corporate Vice President, Product Marketing at DSP Group “The Ultra-Low Energy communication standard offers unparalleled benefits to IoT companies with high fidelity and longer transmission range, longer battery life, a low latency experience and more, we look forward to continue our efforts to solidify ULE as the connectivity of choice for IoT.” Utilizing dedicated, interference-free radio frequency (RF) bands, ULE technology offers outstanding range and lower power consumption as well as robust and secure RF channels, making it an ideal solution for IoT ecosystems. ULE supports natural two-way voice, audio and video communication over the air and reduces total system, installation and maintenance costs by implementing a simple star topology where all nodes on the Home Area Network (HAN) individually connect to a central hub, meaning signal repeaters are not needed. In this instanc that single hub is the Ooma Telo smart home phone system, which wirelessly connects to each sensor via Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT). “ULE’s outstanding range, interference-free operation and self-installation capabilities make it the ideal platform for our new smart home monitoring service,” said Toby Farrand, Vice President of Engineering and Operations at Ooma. “We are very pleased to offer our Ooma Telo customers an innovative, easy to install and use, integrated smart home monitoring solution powered by this reliable technology.” With DECT technology already embedded in Ooma’s Telo home gateways shipped since 2009, a simple software upgrade to ULE for IoT support was a natural step. Leveraging the Ooma Telos already in use by Ooma’s customers to serve as the hub of the smart home achieves two important goals: saving the cost of an additional IoT gateway, and providing a secure, wireless solution that can be easily enhanced and upgraded with new Ooma-branded and third party smart home solutions.
