According to survey data collected from the 35 participating vendors in the ScoreCard, IoT platform revenue will grow at a blistering 116% in 2017. MachNation forecasts that 2017 IoT platform revenue will reach USD2.0 billion with IoT platform companies being acquired for an almost magical 20-times annual revenue. Some of the sectors of greatest interest to IoT platform vendors include smart homes, smart cities, industrial, manufacturing, healthcare, retail, automotive and transportation.

"MachNation's third annual ScoreCard is the industry's largest, longest-running, most in-depth, independent evaluation of IoT platforms," said Steve Hilton, President, MachNaton. "Enterprises looking for the best IoT platform use MachNation's IoT platform ScoreCard to help guide them in selecting open-source, proprietary, cloud, edge or on-premises IoT middleware."

MachNation's ScoreCard is the industry's most comprehensive technical look at the platforms providing device connectivity, device management, data management, event processing, alerting, notifications, dashboards and analytics.

MachNation's ScoreCard contains several quadrants and matrices to help clarify a muddy, yet booming platform ecosystem. The ScoreCard ranks vendors using 14 detailed technical and business criteria including deployment models, device and data management capabilities, user interfaces and development tooling.

"The IoT application enablement space is the most rapidly developing piece of the IoT technology stack," said Dima Tokar, co-founder and CTO, MachNation. "There are many choices out there, but there is a big difference between the strongest and weakest vendors in the market."

According to Tokar, "In order to capture the key trends in the ecosystem, we completed an in-depth analysis of the following vendors: Aeris, Afero, Altizon, Amazon, Amplia, AT&T, Ayla Networks, Bosch, C3 IoT, Carriots, ClearBlade, Connio, Cumulocity, Davra Networks, DevicePilot, Electric Imp, Ericsson, Exosite, Gemalto, HPE, IBM, Kaa, MachineShop, Microsoft, MODE, PTC, Relayr, SAP, Scriptr.io, SiteWhere, Software AG, Telit, TheThings.iO, Waylay and Yaler."
