Flipped Learning Global Initiative Launches International Innovation Center

CHICAGO, Dec. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Flipped Learning Global Initiative (FLGI), a worldwide coalition of educators, researchers, technologists, professional development providers and education leaders, announced the launch of the International Flipped Learning Innovation Center (IFLIC). IFLIC is an online platform created to facilitate connection, collaboration, problem-solving and innovation in flipped learning around the world. Over the last 10 years, the majority of flipped learning research and development has been happening in remote silos beyond the awareness of the global community.  IFLIC is the first initiative launched to support international collaboration and innovation between flipped learning practitioners on a global scale. The center can be accessed directly at http://flglobal.org/communityhome.

"The implications and promise of IFLIC are significant," said Jon Bergmann, one of the pioneers of the flipped learning movement. "I've seen far too many flipped learning early adopters struggling in isolation with problems that have already been solved somewhere in the world. Many flippers are reinventing wheels, some are flipping in quiet desperation, while others are investing in flawed tools because they don't know there is a better way. The solution is connection, communication and collaboration."

The center was created through a merger of the Flipped Learning Community (flippedclassroom.org) and the Flipped Learning Global Initiative (FLGI) . The acquisition connects some 29,000 registered members to a larger global network of flipped learning, practitioners, researchers, master teachers, technologists, administrators, advocates, and thought leaders. The consolidation is part of the FLGI's mission to build bridges between the silos of robust flipped learning activity occurring worldwide.

The Flipped Learning Community was started at flippedclassroom.org in 2010 to engage teachers interested in using technology in their classrooms. "I am still amazed that the site has registered over 29,000 members, that Flipped Learning has gone global and has influenced thousands of teachers to improve their teaching," said Jerry Overmyer founder of the Flipped Learning Community. "It is an honor and privilege to merge with the Flipped Learning Global Initiative."

The merger links one of the most established flipped learning communities to a global constellation of initiatives underway in countries from Argentina to China, Australia, Iceland and South Africa.  "We're excited to launch what we hope will become the epicenter of flipped learning collaboration, innovation and cross-pollination worldwide," said Errol St.Clair Smith, FLGI's Director of Global Development.
