Klas Telecom Launches Government Network Service Device for Inmarsat Global Xpress (GX)

Klas Telecom (News - Alert) announced today that it has launched the Government Network Service Device (NSD), the first software-defined tactical networking solution for use with Inmarsat's (News - Alert) new Global Xpress (GX) satellite network services. The Government NSD combines Klas Telecom's ATLAS virtualization platform allied with a 5th Gen Intel (News - Alert)® Dual-Core virtual machine server that enables Cisco 5921 routing and VDS-IS content distribution in an easy-to-use, two-pound, ruggedized module. The Government NSD provides a smart interconnection between proprietary military networks and the worldwide, high speed GX family of satellites. In addition to GX, the Government NSD also terminates BGAN services for L-band links and enables Inmarsat Over-The-Top (OTT) services like GX Voice, managed browsing services, content delivery and applications.

"The Government NSD opens up the full scope of GX managed services to the tactical, deployable market by integrating these capabilities into an established and trusted ruggedized IP rated unit," Inmarsat VP, Future Government Technologies, Peter Dingley said. "Capable of intelligently terminating both GX and BGAN services, the Government NSD's modular approach enabls access to a highly resilient and assured integrated dual global network solution that is unique to Global Xpress."

The Government NSD solution comprises Klas Telecom Voyager m-series network modules, namely the VoyagerVMm. Additional routing and switching modules can be added to the solution for red/black operations, and the modules can be integrated into a number of Klas Telecom Voyager chassis for a truly modular and scalable platform. Radio, cellular, and Wi-Fi transport options are also available through the Government NSD and the ATLAS open architecture platform makes it easier for users to manage and integrate their own applications and services.

"We have thousands of modules in the field that are currently being used to collect, store, process and transmit data for UAV, maritime, and ground force operations," Klas Telecom Chief Technology Officer Frank Murray said. "Leveraging GX will add a global element to all of those deployments."

Klas Telecom and Inmarsat plan to showcase the solution at the Inmarsat Global Partner Conference taking place next week in Paris. For more information on the Government NSD, please email [email protected].
