Exelon Employees Show Holiday Spirit by Donating 9,300 Hours to Community Causes in Honor of #GivingTuesday

Exelon employees across the country are spending the holiday season investing their time and money in the communities in which they live, work and serve. In support of #GivingTuesday, the national day of giving, approximately 1,400 Exelon volunteers have been participating in more than 180 service projects between November 1 through December 4 in regions where company operations are located.

Each year, #GivingTuesday falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to promote acts of kindness, volunteer work and charitable donations following the shopping focused "Black Friday (News - Alert)" and "Cyber Monday." Exelon employees have extended this spirit throughout the holiday season. The company will also observe #GivingTuesday by matching employees' charitable donations of $100 or more on that day dollar for dollar, and contributing an additional donation of $100 to employees' charities of choice.

"We're pleased to join the national #GivingTuesday campaign to promote the importance of service," said Chris Crane, president and CEO, Exelon. "I'm proud that at this time of year, and throughout the year, Exelon employees are committing their time, energy and expertise to countless non-profit organizations in communities where we work and live."

Volunteers for #GivingTuesday service projects include employees from all of Exelon's businesses, including Atlantic City Electric in New Jersey, Delmarva Power and Light, BGE and Constellation in Maryland, ComEd in northern Illinois, PECO (News - Alert) in southeastern Pennsylvania, Pepco in Washington, D.C., and Exelon Generation and Exelon Business Services Company in Illinois and across the Mid-Atlantic region. Exelon employees across these regions also are leading more than 20 food, clothing and toy drives or similar events to support their communities this holiday season.

A few of the volunteer activities at Exelon locations around the country include:

  • Serving a Thanksgiving dinner to the homeless with Catholic Charities in Washington DC.
  • Building a new home with Habitat for Humanity in Rock Island, Ill.
  • Baking cookies for Ronald McDonald House families with hospitalized children in Chicago
  • Building playgrounds with Kaboom! in Baltimore and Philadelphia
  • Sorting and packing food at the Food Bank of Southern NJ and the Greater Chicago Food Depository
  • Teaching fission and other nuclear concepts to high school students
  • Participating in the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Boot Walk to End Cancer

"The holiday season is all about giving, and I am thankful that Exelon provides hundreds of opportunities for employees to be a part of the Giving Tuesday tradition," said Erica Velasco of ComEd.

So far this year, Exelon employees have volunteered more than 126,000 hours to service projects and pledged more than $7,723,000 through company giving campaigns, exceeding the company's goal and breaking previous records. This comprehensive community engagement program supports Exelon's commitment to education, the environment, diversity and inclusion, and community engagement.
