Alabama Hunters Now Able to Report Harvests Via Mobile AppThe Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, in partnership with Alabama Interactive, utilized the Outdoor Alabama Pocket Ranger platform to develop the state's first mandatory game check mobile app. The Outdoor Alabama mobile app was developed at no cost to taxpayers through Alabama Interactive's partnership with the state. Using the Outdoor Alabama app, hunters are able to easily report the date of their harvest, the animal's gender and type (deer or turkey), the location of their harvest, and the Conservation ID# of the individual recording the harvest. The Conservation ID# (or CID) is a new, unique identifier meant to simplify the reporting process. The mobile app can be used with or without Internet access. When offline, hunters are able to enter harvest information into the app, which will automatically be submitted once coverage is re-established. Upon submission, a confirmation number is issued and the hunter's harvest record is updated within the app. Hunters are able to view their full harvest record on the app or email a copy to themselves. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources plans to use gathered harvest data to guide the state's deer and turkey management programs. "This new, innovative technology is an asset to hunters across the state as they now have a more convenient way to report their game," said Commissioner N. Gunter Guy, Jr. Charles F. "Chuck" Sykes (News - Alert), Director of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division, added, "Along with the addition of game check reporting, other features available to hunters through the app include maps of wildlife management areas, hunting rules and regulations, as well as feeding time and moon phase charts for deer seasons." The Outdoor Alabama Pocket Ranger app is available for download for both iOS and Android (News - Alert) devices at www.outdooralabama.com/mobile-apps.
