BeyondTrust, PADT, PayPal and Securaplane Technologies Executives Elected to Arizona Technology Council Board of Directors


Continuing to expand its influence and reach in Arizona's technology community, the Arizona Technology Council today announced it has appointed Phil Guest, vice president and GM of Securaplane Technologies - a Meggitt Company, Kevin Hickey, president and CEO of BeyondTrust, Eric Miller, co-founder and principal of Phoenix Analysis and Design Technologies (PADT), and Leah Sweet, vice president of PayPal, to its board of directors. The current board includes 39 members, five of whom are officers, representing a diverse set of prominent Arizona-based organizations.

"The talent and expertise that Phil, Kevin, Eric and Leah bring to the table will be a great addition to our already diverse and influential board," said Steven G. Zylstra, president and CEO of the Arizona Technology Council. "We are honored to have such an esteemed board of high-caliber professionals committed to helping us build on our success."

Each of the four new board members provides a unique perspective on the industry, as well as a strong background from a wide variety of technology roles. There is more than 90 years of technology experience between the group.

Phil Guest, Securaplane Technologies

Guest has more than 20 years of technology development experience, spanning the aerospace, defense, data storage, telecom/datacom and semiconductor industries. He is currently VP/GM of Securaplane, a leading supplier of aerospace power and safety products for extreme environments. Prior to Securaplane, he served in both leadership and design engineering roles at industry leaders, including Raytheon Missile Systems, EMC (News - Alert)2, Cadence Design Systems and Teradyne. Guest earned his MBA from Pepperdine and his B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology from Purdue University.

Kevin Hickey, BeyondTrust

Hickey brings a strong history of software operations, strategy, capital fundraising, and mergers and acquisitions to BeyondTrust, where he is responsible for the ompany's day-to-day operations. He joined BeyondTrust by way of the company's acquisition of eEye Digital Security, where he served as CEO and chairman. Under Hickey's leadership, eEye experienced significant growth, launched several 'market-first' security solutions and brought the company back to category leadership. Prior to joining eEye, Hickey was CEO of NetPro Computing, where he helped grow the business before concluding its very successful sale to Quest Software (News - Alert). He has also served as the president and CEO of Homebid.com, where he secured funding and eventually sold the business to industry leader HomeStore.com. During his seven years as president and COO at Viasoft Inc., Hickey led the company through a successful initial public offering prior to its sale. He started his IT career at IBM, serving in several key marketing and executive business management roles.



Eric Miller, PADT

Miller is a co-founder and principal of Tempe-based PADT, Inc., where he is involved in providing tools and services to companies who design and manufacture physical products. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and has lived in Arizona since 1986. He started his career focusing on the application of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computer Aided Design (CAD) to simulate turbine engine components. Over the years, Miller became recognized as an expert user of the ANSYS software tool, and in the development of custom software to automate the product simulation and design process. After more than three decades in the industry, Miller is often called upon to write and speak on simulation, design and 3D printing, as well as on startups and the high-tech sector. His involvement in the startup community includes angel investing, as well as mentoring and serving on steering, screening, and advisory boards of a variety of technical organizations and institutions.


Leah Sweet, PayPal

Sweet is the VP of the Global Product & Engineering Planning & Operations Team at PayPal. Her current focus is to enable operational excellence and world-class delivery to achieve the global business and technology goals of the company. Sweet joined PayPal from CA (News - Alert) Technologies, where she led the consulting practice for its top integration customers. Prior to this, she held the position of Deputy CIO for the State of Arizona, and spent more than 11 years as a VP of Technologies for American Express in senior technology leadership roles. Her responsibilities during that time involved leading technology for online financial processing, security, compliance and identity systems, as well as driving infrastructure platform strategies and development.
