Online Video of a Community Conversation on Prostate Cancer Now Available

Online video is now available from an Us TOO Community Conversation on Prostate Cancer in Detroit. Content addresses the importance of informed decision making for patients and caregivers specific to testing, active surveillance, treatment options for all phases of prostate cancer from an initial diagnosis to advancing disease, and management of side effects.

The event was a feature presentation at the Sixth Annual Men's Health Event presented by the Michigan Institute of Urology (MIU) Men's Health Foundation on September 24 at Ford (News - Alert) Field in Detroit. Community Conversations were led by urologist, Dr. Jason Hafron, and oncologist, Dr. Elisabeth Heath. The same information was presented in two separate sessions, which were both broadcast live on the internet, recorded, and are now available online in short, easily accessible segments by topic at www.ustoo.org/Education-Videos.

"Unlike other cancers, a diagnosis of prostate cancer presents many options for moving forward," explained Dr Jason Hafron, a urologist with Michigan Institute of Urology, P.C. "It's very important for men who are diagnosed to know all the facts before determining their path of treatment for prostate cancer. Events like this are important for raising awareness and education in the local community."

Dr. Elisabeth Heath, an oncologist with Karmanos Cancer Institute noted that "men have a tendency to silently endure and procrastinate on matters surrounding their healthcare. This can be dangerous, particularly when we're talking about something as serious as prostate cancer, which has no symptoms until it's advanced. These Community Conversations really help to spark an important dialogue with men, their loved ones, and healthcare professionals."

The Community Conversation on Prostate Cancer in Detroit was one of four events in the 2016 series hosted by Us TOO and presented by Bayer in addition to other corporate sponsors. Other event locations were The Villages, FL; Columbus, OH; and Austin, TX. Us TOO will be hosting additional Community Conversations on Prostate Cancer in various locations throughout the country in 2017.
