All Systems Go: Firing-Up Ecosystem Collaboration to Realize Canada's Potential as an Innovation NationGTEC Explores How Regional Clusters and Ecosystem Cooperation Can Propel Canada's Innovation Performance and Productivity OTTAWA, Ontario, Oct. 18, 2016 /CNW/ -- As our country strives to realize its potential as an 'innovation nation', the need to boost Canada's global competitiveness and innovation performance increasingly dominates the public and private sector agenda. Canada places 22nd in a global ranking on private sector innovation capacity[1], and 15th in the Global Innovation Index recently co-published by Cornell University, INSEAD, and the World Intellectual Property Organization[2]. It is a complex and multi-faceted grand challenge that demands new ideas and novel approaches. One critical key to success: ecosystem collaboration that combines our industry, academic and industry strengths to achieve greater innovation impact and global competitive advantage. On Thursday, November 3, GTEC, Canada's internationally recognized forum for enabling and celebrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) leadership, innovation and impact in Canada's public sector, will address this opportunity in a dynamic panel on the essential innovation ecosystem. This session will explore how strong and interconnected innovation ecosystems can improve Canada's global competitiveness by driving growth and productivity. It will bring together leaders who span public, private, academic and non-profit sectors, and champion novel ecosystem-based approaches to innovation:
Panelists will discuss key innovation opportunities and challenges within their sphere; new approaches founded on disruptive design thinking, creative collisions and ecosystem collaboration; and the impact on innovation performance. "It enables us to draw on complementary expertise, address R&D gaps, and accelerate progress towards many objectives. For example, the prototyping capabilities to be offered through the Innovation Centre at Bayview Yards will add significant value to our 3D printing team. It will provide us with a commercialization hub for the production of patient-specific 3D models and applications. Leveraging these resources, we aim to launch new firms that address the vast and unmet global demand for such models, and create new medical 3D printing jobs."
