CTA's Shapiro Applauds Nevada's General Assembly for Approving Las Vegas Convention Center Expansion

Nevada's General Assembly convened this week, approving plans for a vital renovation and expansion to the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), home to thousands of business events, including CES®, the world's largest innovation event. The following statement can be attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)TM, owner and producer of CES (News - Alert):

"After State Senate approval, we now commend the Nevada General Assembly for investing in the future of Las Vegas by approving the much-needed expansion and renovation of the LVCC. This project is essential to the economic vitality and diversification of Las Vegas, cementing the city's standing as home to the nation's largest meetings and conventions. We are excited that Senator Brian Sandoval will sign the bill on Monday, keeping Nevada's economic future top of mind.

"As owner and producer of CES, which draws more than 165,000 attendees to Las Vegas every January, the renovation and expansion of the LVCC is paramount. It is critical for the continued growth and future of our show in Las Vegas and the many benefits CES contributes to the local economy and community at large. CES currently uses more than 2.4 million net square feet of exhibit space, occupying most of the convention space available in Las Vegas. Our show reflects and drives the expansion of technology as a core part of almost every major global industry. As our industry grows, so does our need for more exhibition space and more modern and tech-friendly facilities.

"This January marks the 39th year CES has been held in Las Vegas, a city known for betting on its own success by investing in new facilities, hotels, restaurants and infrastructure. The revitalization of the LVCC is critical for Las Vegas to maintain its top billing as the world's best exhibition city with state-of-the-art, high tech convention facilities.

"The General Assembly's decision to support the infrastructure necessary to keep Las Vegas as te world's top destination for business events will support thousands of jobs and contribute millions of dollars to the local economy. Approval for the LVCC's renovation and expansion illustrates the innovative spirit that embodies the city of Las Vegas. We look forward to a revitalized LVCC - one that captures the business experience that put Las Vegas on the map as a global destination and paints a bright future for this dynamic city."
