Allison Botos Schilz Joins Hunton & Williams LLP's Consumer Compliance Practice, with Focus on Mortgage Licensing and Regulatory Compliance

Hunton & Williams LLP continues the national expansion of its consumer compliance practice with the arrival of Allison Botos Schilz as counsel in Washington, D.C.

Botos Schilz focuses her practice on regulatory compliance issues affecting the residential mortgage industry, including federal and state consumer protection laws and regulations, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau examination preparation, state licensing, and transactional issues involving state-licensed entities. She also counsels clients on federal agency and investor approvals and requirements, including FHA, VA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Ginnie Mae.

"Allison's hire fills a need to provide our structured finance clients with residential mortgage compliance and licensing capabilities," says Thomas Y. Hiner, cohead of the firm's structured finance and securitization practice.

Botos Schilz advises mortgage companies, banks, mortgage servicers, home builders, secondary market investors, and other financial institutions in the areas of mortgage origination and servicing, including the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and related federal laws and regulations.

"Allison has built a niche practice of licensing and regulatory compliance issues related to mortgage origination and servicing which is immediately applicable to our financial services client base, both in mortgage origination and subsequent servicing and sales," says Jarrett L. Hale, cohead of the financial services litigation and compliance practice. "She is one of the few lawyers in the nation with state and federal regulatory compliance experience as it relates specifically to mortgage licensing for lenders, brokers, servicers and purchasers."

An undergraduate of the University of Virginia, Botos Schilz received a law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. She joins Hunton from Weiner Brodsky Kider PC. Botos Schilz recently participated in a panel discussion, "Digesting the Regulatory Alphabet Soup," at the ABS (News - Alert) East annual conference, an event attended by more than 4,000 structured finance professionals.
