Puerto Central Opens with Navis Terminal Operating System

Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation and provider of operational technologies and services that unlock greater performance and efficiency for the world's leading terminal operators, and Puerto Central S.A today announced the opening of a brand new terminal at the port of San Antonio, Chile. Now opening its gates after a smooth, eight-month installation process, the new terminal is the largest non-government port investment in the country.

In the development of Puerto Central, terminal decision-makers outfitted the terminal with hardware and software that helped meet their ambitious growth goals; partnering with Kalmar and Liebherr for terminal hardware and Navis for top of the line software. The terminal operates 7 Super Post Panamax STS, 7 reach stackers, 14 RTGs, 4 top lifters and 32 terminal tractors. Puerto Central is aunching with 80,000 TEU per year, but in a region with a potential annual TEU of over three million, is projecting an increase to an impressive 800,000-900,000 TEU volume over the next five years.

"The implementation of state of the art equipment like Kalmar and Liebherr working in sync with top of the line software and technology like Navis N4 positions us as the most modern port in Chile," says Carlos Baez, CCO of Puerto Central. "Now that the terminal has opened we are focused on providing a level of excellence of service that befits our state-of-the-art operation. With 104 live sites, we know that Navis' TOS was the right solution to help us meet our goals. "

After opening its gates in March, the port has already begun accepting throughput and has received strong, positive feedback from customers including CMA-CGM, Hamburg Sud, MSC (News - Alert), Hapag Lloyd and Maersk. Puerto Central firmly believes that they have put the right systems in place for a high level of success and rapid growth in Latin America.

"Navis was excited to be a part of establishing this terminal from the ground floor," remarked Chuck Schneider, Navis VP and General Manager of the Americas. "Puerto Central is going to serve as a shining example of excellence for terminals operating in the region, thanks to its investment and commitment to providing a gateway into the country that meets the high standards of today's shippers."
