SolidRun's iMX6 MicroSoM Gives IoT Manufacturers a Head Start on Joining the Industry 4.0 RevolutionTEL AVIV, Israel, Oct. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SolidRun, a leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance System on Module (SoM) solutions, Single Board Computers (SBC) and Industrial PCs, today announced that it has updated the industry's smallest NXP i.MX6 based MicroSoM™ to offer several advanced features that were previously reserved for the carrier board. SolidRun's IMX6 MicroSoM v1.5 pairs the low-power capabilities of the iMX6 SoC with essential components, like memory and power management, FlexCan, multiple UART interfaces for supporting RS232 and RS485, as well as options for flash memory (eMMC and/or SPI NOR), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (industrial-grade based on TI WiLink 8). By utilizing the iMX6 based MicroSoM from SolidRun, IoT device manufactures are able to bring new products with more advanced capabilities to market faster, and allows them to plan a migration path for future products and features that support emerging protocols. At 47mm by 30mm, the new iMX6 MicroSoM is the industry's smallest SoM available to feature all of the necessary subsystems and connectivity options needed for consumer, automotive and industrial grade IoT applications. Additionally, SolidRun's iMX6 MicroSoM design is backwards compatible with previous versions, allowing manufacturers to quickly enable new features like Bluetooth connectivity, NFC for identifying users and tools, embedded storage and more, as well as add support for emerging communications protocols as a running change to their current product line. Ideal for heavy-duty applications, SolidRun's MicroSoM can be used in fanless applications. Its ability to maintain a low operating temperature without a fan and reduces the potential of heat and dust-related failures, which results in reliable long-term operation and performance. "We're seeing a huge trend toward IoT interconnectivity between devices in not just the consumer market, but for automotive and industrial applications too," said Kossay Omary, SolidRun co-founder and technology leader. "We understand the vast differentiation in products between the different markets and have designed our latest NXP iMX6 MicroSoM to simplify product development in all categories. Our MicroSoM was purposefully designed to be small yet flexible and is offered in low-power single core applications for consumer products to powerful quad core applications for advanced products like robotics. Additionally, we offer a wide array of options like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, storage and a CAN bus to serve the automotive industry as well as the growing number of industrial IoT products driving the Industry 4.0 revolution." With designs supporting low-power applications to those that need the extra processing capabilities, SolidRun's iMX6 MicroSoM is offered with high-performance ARM Cortex A9 processors ranging from single core to quad core, running up to 1.2GHz. The company also offers a variety of available carrier boards from their Hummingboard and CuBox-i product lines that enable manufacturers to pair the features of the iMX6 MicroSoM with USB, Ethernet, NFC (via mikroBUS™), HDMI, IR receiver, audio input and output, display output, camera input, and much more.
