Aroma From the Soil, Economical for Farmers - National Seminar by CSIR-IIIM, Jammu

NAGPUR, India, September 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --

The National Aroma Mission has been launched by the Central Govt., in line with this the National Seminar cum Training Camp will be organized by CSIR-IIIM, Jammu and Pacific Agro, Nagpur on 2nd October, 2016, Sunday at CSIR-NEERI, Wardha road, Ajani square, Nagpur, Maharashtra.

First half of the session will be held at NEERI auditorium and the post lunch session will be conducted on the farm of Pacific Agro for practical demonstration.

The seminar will be addressed by Dr. Ram Vishwakarma, Director, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, who will be the Chief Guest; Dr. Suresh Chandra, Chief Scientist, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu; Dr. Vilas Sapkal, Former VC, Nagpur University; Dr. Sanjay Wankhede, Associate Research Director, DPDKV, Akola and Ashok Kumar, Managing partner of Pacific Agro, Nagpur.

Looking at the farmers' plight in the Vidharbha region of Maharashtra, this mission is likely to be focused here and CSIR-IIIM is planning to establish a training centre at Nagpur to cater the needs of the farmers, says Dr. Ram Vishwakarma. To create awareness and implementation of the mission for the farmers' benefit is the aim of the seminar.

p>The aromatic crop/grasses variety like Himroja, Tawiroja, RRL-CN-5, CKP-25, Kalam (aromatic grass) and Mentha, Tulsi and Monarda citriodora developed by CSIR-IIIM, Jammu are quite suitable in this region; says Dr. Suresh Chandra, Chief Scientist, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu.

By cultivation of these crops, income of Rs.30,000 to 60,000 could be generated per acre yearly without much risk of weather conditions, wild animals, and pest and diseases; that too on unutilized and degraded soils.

The Patanjali mega Food and Herbal Park at Nagpur could be the assured market for these products.

The aromatic crop cultivation and processing is a good source of generating sustainable income from adjoining forest land, unused, marginal and degraded soil in this region, says Ashok Kumar, who is an ex-serviceman of the Indian Air Force.

Take the opportunity to be a part of the practical demonstration of aromatic grass/crop cultivation, processing and marketing as appealed by the organizer.
