Smart Grid: the Energy Revolution is Digital - ENERGY SAXONY SUMMIT in Dresden

DRESDEN, Germany, September 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --

Digitalizing the energy system plays a key role in the successful revolution of the energy supply toward renewable energies. On September 27, 2016, the energy sector is meeting under the slogan "ENERGY SUPPLY OF THE FUTURE: digital, flexible, and climate neutral," during the ENERGY SAXONY SUMMIT at the International Congress Center Dresden. In the joint project WindNODE, energy suppliers and research institutes of the Saxon network 'Energy Saxony' are collaborating with national and international partners; 50 participants are creating a transnational competence center at the interface of energy technology, information and communications technology, and software.

When it comes to transitioning from traditional to renewable energy, Germany is an international pioneer. With a growing proportion of enrgy generated from wind and photovoltaic sources, all areas of energy supply, the generating, networks, and usage and storage areas, must interact intelligently. The energy revolution, therefore, requires solutions from information and communications technologies. A key component for successfully realizing this transition in Germany is the joint project WindNODE, which is part of the Federal funding program 'Smart Energy - Digital Agenda for the Energy Transition (SINTEG)'. SINTEG, launched by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in 2015, is funding five selected German regions over a period of four years with a total of 230 million Euro. The solutions developed in these model regions shall serve as a blueprint for its widespread implementation throughout Germany.
