State of Arkansas Wins National Award for Innovative Technology

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) has recognized the State of Arkansas as a winner in the State IT Recognition Awards program in the Emerging & Innovative Technologies category for Gov2Go, the state's citizen-centric personal government assistant. Only 11 exemplary initiatives were chosen as recipients for the 2016 Recognition Awards from among 139 nominees nationwide.

Mark Myers, Arkansas' chief technology officer and director of the Arkansas Department of Information Services, attended the NASCIO awards ceremony in Orlando and accepted the award on behalf of the state.

"Arkansas has an impressive resume of national firsts in government technology achievements," Myers said. "We are honored to be recognized by NASCIO for Gov2Go as another example of how we continually work to create innovative ways to connect citizens to government."

Developed by the Information Network of Arkansas (INA) in 2015, Gov2Go is the nation's first digital government assistant that breaks down agency silos and delivers citizen-centric government interactions through a single channel. Gov2Go provides personalized and timely information to more than 180,000 Arkansans-such as property assessment and tax payments, car tag (News - Alert) renewals and business franchise tax-and sends reminders about these government services to the user's computer, mobile device or Apple Watch. This week INA announced the release of new Gov2Go elections features, in partnership with the Arkansas Secretary of State, that help Arkansans receive information for the November general election personalized to their voting district.

"The recipients honored tonight, as well as all nominated projects, demonstrate the integral and transformative nature information technology can have on state government and the experiences of citizens," Delaware Chief Information Officer James Collins and Indiana Chief Information Officer Dewand Neely said in a press release issued by NASCIO.

The NASCIO Recognition awards are given annually to states hat have implemented exceptional programs that have made an important contribution to the operation of state government. The prestigious award program, in its 28th consecutive year, honors outstanding information technology achievements in the public sector.

In August, Gov2Go and Arkansas Auditor of State's ClaimItAR.com were both announced by NASCIO as award finalists. ClaimItAR was named a finalist for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Information Technology. ClaimItAR helps Arkansans find and claim lost property in minutes on a mobile device and automates a previously paper-based unclaimed property filing process. ClaimItAR.com was also recognized as a NASCIO award finalist in 2015 in the Government to Citizen category.

Gov2Go has won several other national awards for innovation including StateScoop 50 State Innovation of the Year in 2016, finalist in the Government Computer News 2016 "DIG IT" Award competition, top eight finalist in the American Council of Technology's Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) 2016 Igniting Innovation Award, and a finalist in the 2015 Amazon Web Services (News - Alert) City on a Cloud Innovation Challenge.
