The breakfast also included remarks by Federal Chief Information Officer Tony Scott.

"As the Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Chairman McCaul has continuously made preparedness to prevent cybersecurity threats a top priority" said Todd Thibodeaux, president and CEO, CompTIA. "As the Co-Chair and Co-Founder of both the Congressional High Tech Caucus and the Cybersecurity Caucus, he has demonstrated a strong understanding of some of the most serious threats to our nation's technology infrastructure.

Texas is second only to California in technology industry jobs with more than 585,000, according to Cyberstates 2016: The Definitive State-by-State Analysis of the U.S. Tech Industry. Many of these workers are tasked to protect user's personal information and critical systems across the Lone Star from cyber-attacks.

"The fact is, every day, our government and businesses are under attack. Countries like North Korea, China, Russia, and Iran are continually attempting to conduct espionage and steal the intellectual property of Americans," said Rep. Michael McCaul. "Attacks such as the ones carried out on the State Department, Target, Sony Pictures, OPM, and Anthem are just the tip of this growing threat."

"Texas, as we know, is home to some of the world's largest companies and has become a nucleus for the Startup and Tech industries," continued McCaul. "It is vital, in the current threat environment, that the government and private companies continue to work together to promote the most effective cyber workforce and protect the vital digital networks and infrastructure in Texas and the United States. "

CompTIA created its Excellence in Cybersecurity Awards to recognize members of Congress and federal agency program managers who have the foresight to use federal resources wisely to improve the cybersecurity skills of those who work for the U.S. Government. As Chief Information Officer Scott highlighted in his remarks, the Federal Cybersecurity Workforce Strategy emphasizes the importance of developing highly skilled talent in the federal workforce.
