Berger Singerman Expands Land Use, Regulatory and Commercial Law Practices with Addition of Partner Jeff Bartel

Berger Singerman, Florida's business law firm, is pleased to announce that Jeffrey S. Bartel has joined the firm as partner to serve clients on land use and zoning, real estate development and finance, governmental and regulatory affairs, corporate governance and compliance, energy and utility, and private equity and venture capital matters. A highly-respected business, legal and community leader in South Florida, Bartel brings nearly three decades of expertise in business, law, and government -- in addition to his tremendous civic and philanthropic leadership -- to add further depth to Berger Singerman's already robust team.

"I am excited to join Berger Singerman. The firm has a deep bench of outstanding colleagues and tremendous breadth of legal talent. Berger Singerman's culture and its focus on a collaborative, value-driven approach to client service are compelling. In addition, corporate citizenship is important to me, and Berger Singerman has a long and distinguished record of being a great corporate citizen and is dedicated at its core to giving back to the communities it serves," said Bartel. "I very much look forward to lending my legal, business and government expertise, knowledge and relationships to best empower and deliver extraordinary service to our clients."

Bartel also serves as chairman and managing director of Hamptons Group, LLC, a private investment and strategic advisory firm focused on capital markets with a diversified class of public and private assets and venture-oriented investments in real estate and financial services, energy, infrastructure and telecommunications, and targeted retail and entertainment businesses.

Prior to founding Hamptons Group, Bartel served as senior vice president and C-suite executive in corporate, regulatory, compliance and operations at one of the world's largest electric utilities. Bartel started his legal career with Steel Hector & Davis (now merged into Squire Patton (News - Alert) Boggs) where he became a partner and firmwide practice chair in land use, local government law and governmental affairs, and served part-time as a city attorney for various municipalities. He then was a shareholder and led the land use, governmental, and environmental law practice at Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson. Prior to practicing law, Bartel began his career in government, serving as chief of staff to U.S. Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart and, before that, as the chief aide to then Miami Mayor Xavier Suarez.

"We're thrilled to have Jeff join our team. He will be a great addition to our already strong Government and Regulatory team and provide additional expertise to our Business Finance & Tax team as well," said Paul Steven Singerman, co-chair of Berger Singerman. "Jeff has a stellar career committed to exceptional quality, creativity, outstanding client service and delivering the best possible results. He is a trusted advisor to many corporations, successful entrepreneurs, public and private-sector leaders, and government officials, as well as local, state and national business organizations. We are very excited and fortunate to have him on our team."

Bartel is the latest in a number of high profile and talented additions to Beger Singerman's Government and Regulatory Team. Two weeks ago, the firm announced that Colin M. Roopnarine joined the firm as a partner. Roopnarine is the immediate past General Counsel for the Office of Financial Regulation and previously served as the Deputy General Counsel of Professions at the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, where he was also selected to lead its Litigation Team as its Chief. In July, the firm welcomed Adriana Kostencki to start up the firm's business immigration practice. Earlier this year, Pamela Cothran Marsh, the former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, joined the firm to focus her private practice on white collar litigation and internal investigations. They joined Paul S. Figg, government disputes and permitting and land use attorney and former Assistant County Attorney in Broward County; Melanie Ann Hines, white collar and government and regulatory attorney and former Statewide Prosecutor for the Florida Office of the Attorney General; Dawn M. Meyers, government permitting and environmental attorney and former Chief Hearing Officer and Administrator for the State of Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation; Samuel E. Poole III, land use and environmental attorney and former Executive Director of the South Florida Water Management District; Floyd R. Self, environmental and energy attorney and the current President for the Southern Chapter of the Energy Bar Association; Daniel H. Thompson, administrative litigation and environmental attorney and former Deputy Secretary of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection; and Javier L. Vazquez, land use and government permitting attorney and former staff to United States Senator Connie Mack.

With strong personal, civic, and philanthropic ties to the community, Bartel has been an integral part of a number of non-profit organizations and business entities, serving on the boards of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Miami-Dade, the Beacon Council of Miami-Dade, the Miami Children's Museum, Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, the Orange (News - Alert) Bowl Committee, the Harvard Club of Miami, and the board of overseers of the University of Miami School of Business, among other entities. He is also a frequent guest speaker before university, corporate and chamber audiences on various topics of business, law and ethics ranging from leadership, business strategy and change management; public policy and government; real estate, land use and venture capital; crisis and strategic communications; corporate responsibility, ethics and sustainability; and community engagement and non-profits.
