National Water Company Sponsors Pilot Project with SANIPOR® to Offer Flood Grouting for Lateral/Side Sewer Lines in Seattle, Washington

SEATTLE, Sept. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- National Water Company (NWC), a local insurance administrator that offers insurance policies for residential water and sewer lines, has sponsored a pilot project in Seattle with SANIPOR® to offer flood grouting for qualifying lateral or side sewer lines insured by NWC.

When an exterior water or sewer line fails or breaks unexpectedly, the excavation and repairs can cost a homeowner thousands of dollars, which many cannot afford.  Unfortunately, exterior or underground water and sewer lines are not covered by most homeowners' insurance policies.   As a result, National Water Company provides a solution and offers affordable underground exterior water and sewer line insurance to homeowners.

SANIPOR's special flood grouting process internally floods an exterior sewer line all at once with two liquid silicate compounds that immediately seals the pipe from infiltration or leakage.

The collaboration between NWC and SANIPOR® follows a successful pilot project in 2011-12 which Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) used SANIPOR's innovative flood grouting technology to rehabilitat sewer systems in the Broadview neighborhood of Seattle.  According to the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) executive summary of the SPU flood grouting pilot project, "The SANIPOR® flood grouting technology is successful in reducing infiltration with relatively little disruption to the community and at a potentially lower cost than other technologies."  Additionally, the evaluation by SPU identified flood grouting using the SANIPOR process as having the greatest benefit-to-cost ratio.

According to Jeff Johnson of NWC, the goal of the pilot program with SANIPOR is to stop or greatly decrease the probability of complete sewer line failures, which reduces costs and mitigates the risk of claims.  Specifically, flood grouting is an affordable way to reinforce old concrete and clay sewer lines.  In addition, the process greatly reduces backups by eliminating root intrusion. The technology also stops water infiltration, which reduces sewer treatment costs and seals the pipe to eliminate pollution caused by leaky sewer lines.

Furthermore, NWC and SANIPOR will enter into an exclusive agreement regarding lateral/side sewer line flood grouting in Washington State, where NWC will use local contractors to complete various sewer line grouting/sealing projects.
