HomePlug's Roadmap Delivers Enhanced HomePlug AV2 Capabilities

HomePlug (News - Alert)® (www.homeplug.org), the worldwide standard for powerline communications networking, today announced that the Alliance has aligned on a feature roadmap and has begun development to take HomePlug AV2 to a new level. The first Technical Working Group meeting was held earlier this month. These enhancements expand upon the strengths of the already successful HomePlug AV2 technology to deliver evolutionary performance benefits for end users.

"We are excited to bring consumers around the world the next level of enhanced connectivity as we build on the phenomenal success we have already seen with HomePlug AV2," said HomePlug Alliance President Rob Ranck. "HomePlug certified products have been proven to be an excellent solution to meet today's high demands for stable and reliable connectivity throughout the home, even at distances far from the router. Our new feature roadmap will refine and improve upon our established technology even further."

"As the proliferation of connected devices and bandwidth-intensive applications and services continues to grow exponentially across the world, the adoption of HomePlug AV2 technology has been helping consumers manage their networks in order to meet these demands," said David Watkins, Service Director, Connected Home Devices at Strategy Analytics."Enhancements being made to the HomePlug AV2 specification will further help end-users to take full advantage of the wave of new consumer technologies such as 4K video streaming and virtual reality."

HomePlug AV2 was released in 2012 and is utilized by dozens of manufacturers worldwide in powerline adapters, hybrid solutions with integrated Wi-Fi, and embedded into broadband routers. HomePlug AV2 remains extremely successful, providing consumers with connectivity in the most demanding applications, such as 4K Ultra HD streaming and online gaming without lagging. New feature enhancements will build on this robust technology by adding improvements in the areas of performance, security, regulatory adherence, neighboring networks interference mitigation and environmental friendliness.
