Sony Group SVP, Global CISO John Scimone Joins CyberVista's Advisory Board


Cybersecurity education and workforce development company CyberVista today announced that John Scimone, Sony Group's Senior Vice President, Global Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) will join the company's Advisory Board. Mr. Scimone is an information security risk management expert, having built and led teams that provide industry-leading security capabilities for both private businesses and the federal government.

As a member of CyberVista's Advisory Board, Mr. Scimone joins a group of leading cybersecurity experts, including: Stacey Halota, Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer, Graham Holdings Company; Jake Mass, Senior Vice President of Planning and Development, Graham Holdings Company; Robert Lenz, Senior Advisor, Cyber Security Consulting Group; Vince Ponzo, Senior Director at Eugene Lang Entrepreneurship Center at Columbia University; and, Rich Wilhelm, retired Senior Executive Advisor, Booz Allen Hamilton (News - Alert).

As SVP, Global Chief Information Security Officer of the Sony Group, Mr. Scimone is responsible for Sony's global information security and privacy strategy, policy, and operations. Prior to joining Sony, Mr. Scimone held a number of leadership positions at the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), including as Director of Security Operations for the Defense Secretary's communications office, where he oversaw the organization's cyber, personnel, and facility security programs. Mr. Scimone was also a member of the Joint Task Force for Global Network Operations under United States Strategic Command, where he formulated and ran network security programs that protected information of the DoD's more than two million employees.

Mr. Scimone earned an MA in Strategic Intelligence Studies from the Institute of World Politics and a BS in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology (News - Alert), where he specialized in information security. He has also held a CISSP certification since 2007.


As part of the company's efforts to create a cyber-reader workforce, CyberVista recently launched a CISSP certification test preparation program for practitioners and IT professionals to help more people better serve the businesses and organizations they're securing and fill the most in-demand job openings in the field. CyberVista also recently announced its board and executive education program, which aims to give business leaders the understanding and tools to oversee and manage today's cyber risks. As part of the program, CyberVista is hosting a series of seminars exclusively for boards and executives across the country, the first of which will take place October 24-26, 2016, in Scottsdale, Arizona. CyberVista plans to introduce several additional initiatives to address the skills gap, including a continuing education program for practitioners already in the field or looking to get into it.
