Meta's Meron Gribetz is Recognized as an Honoree of MIT Technology Review's 2016 Innovators Under 35 List

Today, MIT Technology Review reveals its annual list of Innovators Under 35. For over a decade, the global media company has recognized a list of exceptionally talented technologists whose work has great potential to transform the world. For his work in the field of computer and electronics hardware, Meta's founder and CEO, Meron Gribetz has been recognized as an Entrepreneur on the list.

"I am honored to be included in this prestigious list of Innovators Under 35," according to Meron Gribetz, Meta founder and CEO. "It is especially rewarding to be recognized for developing a technology that I am passionate about - technology that will make a difference in the way people interact with computers. As MIT (News - Alert) has recognized, augmented reality technology will soon change the way we communicate, create, and collaborate on a daily basis."

Gribetz studied Computer Science and Neuroscience at Columbia University, where he became convinced that a Natural Machine approach would change the way people approach doing business. He saw what he calls a natural, neuroscience-based path of least resistance - a zero-learning-curve approach to computing - as the only way to unlock the true potential of technology. This innovative augmented reality approach to computer-human interface will allow knowledge workers to replace their mice, keyboards and touch screens with a new interface that removes the barriers between our tools and our minds.

Based on his research at Columbia, Meron imagined how different things could be if the technology we use everyday used Augmented Reality (AR) to truly connect us to our surroundings and to each other.

In 2012, Gribetz built the first prototype of a pioneering AR headset - using an oven-heated knife, a hot glue gun, and the best components he could find. A year later, Meta entered the marketplace with the first see-through headset that allowed wearers to move and manipulate digital holographic 3D content intuitively, using natural hand gestures.

Based on this fast-evolving technology, Meron quickly established Meta as the leader in AR, partnering with forward-thinking organizations and academics around the globe to pioneer this new technology. Building on his research, Meron developed the basic tenets of neuroscience-based interface design approach to computing, creating the foundation for a new generation of natural machines that will become a healthy, vital extension of how people create, connect and communicate.

"Over the years, we've had success in choosing young innovators whose work has been profoundly infuential on the direction of human affairs," says editor in chief and publisher of MIT Technology Review, Jason Pontin. "Previous winners include Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the cofounders of Google (News - Alert); Mark Zuckerberg, the cofounder of Facebook (News - Alert); and Jonathan Ive, the chief designer of Apple (News - Alert). We're proud of our selections and the variety of achievements they celebrate, and we're proud to add Meron Gribetz to this prestigious list."

This year's honorees will be featured online at www.technologyreview.com starting today, and in the September/October print magazine, which hits newsstands worldwide on August 29. They will appear in person at the upcoming EmTech MIT conference October 18-20 in Cambridge, Massachusetts (www.EmTechMIT.com).
