Government Initiatives in APAC Will Increase the Adoption of Cloud Collaboration until 2020, Reports Technavio

Technavio analysts forecast the global cloud collaboration market to grow at a CAGR of almost 11% during the forecast period, according to their latest report.

The research study covers the present scenario and growth prospects of the global cloud collaboration market for 2016-2020. This market study also details the major drivers of the market and outlines the challenges faced by vendors and the market at large, as well as the key emerging trends in the market.

In APAC, the Digital India programme by the government of India and the EU-China High Performance Computing and Networking Initiative in China will improve the digital infrastructure in these countries, thereby, increasing the adoption of cloud collaboration. The Digital India programme was launched to renovate the nation into a digitally empowered culture by creating awareness about the digital ecosystem. This will open up prospects for digital technologies, such as cloud computing, mobile applications, and cloud collaboration. The EU-China High Performance Computing and Networking Initiative is targeted at attaining excessive and far-reaching influence on output, industrial attractiveness, environmental management, and many other aspects of the Chinese economy and society.

Technavio ICT analysts highlight the following four factors that are contributing to the growth of the global cloud collaboration market:

  • Need for global communication
  • Growing adoption of virtualized communications
  • Increase in BYOD adoption and mobility among enterprises
  • Increased internet penetration and speed

Need for global communication

Many enterprises use advanced technologies to communicate with their employees, business partners, and clients located globally. This global expansion has resulted in an increased need for communication and collaborations among organizational divisions that are located in different regions. The convergence of information plays a vital role in enhancing global business opportunities. This increases the demand for international communication and collaboration facilities that enable information sharing. Currently, many business enterprises are showing increased interest in cloud collaboration, as it has the capability to connect all communication channels and collaborate under one platform. It is also less expensive and more efficient than most on-premises communication tools.

Amrita Choudhury, a lead enterprise application research analyst at Technavio, says, "Cloud collaboration software allows the real-time exchange of data and information among enterprises. It can be deployed using an IP communication infrastructure and also can be integrated with a cloud infrastructure with an existing internet connection, making the enterprise communication more flexible and scalable. It also has the capability to integrate with several advanced business process applications such as customer relationship management, enterprise resource planning, project management, and supply chain management."

Growing adoption of virtualized communications

A large number of organizations continue to virtualize their data centers, including communications and collaborations solutions, to leverage the capacity of data centers. Vendors in the market are introducing virtualization software support in their telephony and collaboration portfolios. Also, they are undergoing partnerships with leading providers such as Google, Microsoft, and Cisco (News - Alert).

"Virtualization can address the issues of running virtualized voice and videos in the data center. It helps companies to significantly increase the number of mobile devices and virtual desktops that can be hosted on each data center server. Mobile virtualization is one such technology that allows deploying multiple operating systems through a single mobile device," adds Amrita.

Virtualization software installs a thin layer on the hardware, which separates the operating system and applications from the device's hardware. All computing resources, including mobile devices, have a virtualization layer to enable the use of applications independent of the hardware configuration. This technology allows the simultaneous execution of personal as well as enterprise applications on a mobile device. Thus, an increase in demand for mobile virtualization should boost the growth of the global cloud collaboration software market.

Increase in bring your own device (BYOD) adoption and mobility among enterprises

Due to the BYOD trend as well as the proliferation of cloud services and the growth in job shifting, mobility has become one of the important priorities among chief information officers in the largest enterprises focused on improving productivity. However, this scenario is evolving and will become even more diverse, with software as a service and mobile applications are projected to increase to 25% of a company's IT portfolio. With this broad variety of applications, companies need to provide users quick access without requiring IT to utilize multiple management systems to individually provision application or device access.

The availability of open-source BYOD applications has spurred growth in the BYOD market. Many small enterprises prefer employing open-source BYOD applications than invest in paid BYOD applications. Some open-source BYOD applications include Viber and Skype for video conferencing applications and Evernote and Office suites for storing documents and files.

Increased internet penetration and speed

Governments worldwide are promoting the use of the internet. In 2015, the global population was 7.21 billion, out of which around 3.01 billion, or 42% of the world population, were active internet users. Among the active users, 94% access the internet through their mobile phones for business and personal purposes. APAC has more internet users than other regions because of China and India, which are highly populated countries. The major reasons for this are technological developments, growing young workforce population, the decline in bandwidth constraints, and improvements in the internet speed. The long-term evolution (LTE (News - Alert)) and 3.5G technologies, which offer better internet speeds, have accelerated the adoption of connected mobile devices as part of the cloud collaboration.
