Rivada Mercury Adds Satellite Powerhouse Hughes to Team for Public Safety Initiative

Rivada Networks announced today that it has teamed with Hughes (News - Alert) Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES) to provide satellite services to Rivada Mercury, LLC. Rivada Mercury, LLC is an American company formed by Rivada Networks, Harris Corp., Nokia (News - Alert), Fujitsu Network Communications, and Black & Veatch in order to propose building FirstNet's nationwide public safety broadband network. Hughes is now part of some two dozen leading telecommunications firms that have teamed together to offer FirstNet a purpose-built, sustainable and affordable network for our nation's emergency services personnel.

"When we announced the formation of Rivada Mercury in June, we said we would disclose additional partners over time. Hughes has been working closely with us all year on Rivada Mercury's FirstNet bid. We couldn't be happier to have them on our team," said Rivada Networks co-CEO Declan Ganley.

In May, Rivada Mercury submitted its bid to build out FirstNet's national public-safety broadband network. FirstNet expects to make an award by November 1, 2016.

"Hughes is delighted to be chosen as a member of the Rivada Mercury FirstNet public safety broadband team," said Paul Gaske, Executive Vice President at Hughes. "As the global leader in satellite technology and services, Hughes looks forward to help design and implement the highest level of network availability and resiliency while extending cost-effective cverage to remote and rural areas. Utilizing our nationwide Hughes satellite broadband infrastructure will enable Rivada to provide uniformly high quality service to first responders everywhere."

Rivada Mercury brought together the expertise, financial stability and sustainable business model that will subsidize the cost of building and operating FirstNet's nationwide broadband network. That network will use state-of-the-art tools and a proven approach that leverages existing partner infrastructure to speed deployment and reduce cost.
