Object Management Group Chairs Continue Efforts to Forge New Enterprise Standards for Interoperability
Chairs of task forces participating in the Object
Management Group® (OMG®), presented updates
about technology processes underway at OMG's quarterly membership
meeting, held from June 20-24 in Orlando, Florida, USA. An
international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards
consortium, OMG is comprised of hundreds of organizations including
end-users, vendors, government agencies and academic and research
institutions. They work together to develop enterprise integration
standards for a wide range of technologies and an even wider range of
industries such as
finance, healthcare,
security,
space
and IIoT.
OMG also maintains active relationships with many other standards bodies
and consortia as these relationships help reduce duplication (and thus
confusion) in the marketplace.
On the last day of the meeting, Chairs summarized what they accomplished
during the week and what they intend to achieve in the next quarter:
-
Claude Baudoin, Co-chair of the Business Modeling & Integration Domain
Task Force: "he Task Force initiated a discussion of
'information provenance, pedigree and records management.' Having
found that the topic is relevant to many others, we established a new
working group to explore this further."
-
Dr. Ben Calloni, Co-chair of the Systems Assurance Task Force:
"The Systems Assurance Task Force agreed to start work on two new
specifications: The Tool Output Integration Framework, a standardized
software mechanism to execute and report results from static code
analysis tools; and the Semantics for Software Fault Patterns, a
standard for more formal specification of software defects."
-
Sanford Friedenthal, Chair of the Systems Engineering Domain Special
Interest Group (SE DSIG): "The SE DSIG initiated work to
develop the RFP for SysML v2."
-
Larry L. Johnson, member of OMG Board of Directors and co-chair, OMG
Records Management Services V1.1 Revision Task Force: "The
Preservation and Records Management Working Group of the Government
Domain Task Force initiated a new work item to develop a specification
for Archival Preservation of Electronic Records in a Cloud
Environment."
-
Leonard Levine, DISA Computer Scientist, who co-manages the Liaison
Subcommittee of the OMG's Architecture Board: "The Subcommittee is
working with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
to advance two OMG specifications-UPDM™ and SysML®-as full
international standards and to clarify use of ISO copyrighted material
in OMG specifications."
-
Ronald W. Townsen, Command, Control, Computing, Communications and
Intelligence (C4I) Domain Task Force Co-chair: "The C4I Domain Task
Force efforts concluded at the Orlando Technical OMG meeting with the
finalization vote to release the new Unified Architecture Framework™
(UAF®) standard, previously known as Unified Profile for
DoDAF and MoDAF™ (UPDM) 3.0."
-
Charlotte Wales, Co-chair of the Middleware and Related Services
(MARS) Platform Task Force: "MARS reviewed and analyzed responses
received to date for the Data Residency RFI (News - Alert) and have great hopes to
receive many more in response to the webinar conducted on OMG's
BrightTalk channel."
