Nova Scotia Leader to Share Insights of Service Delivery Success at GTEC 2016GTEC Announces Sandra Cascadden, Nova Scotia's Associate Deputy Minister of Internal Services and CIO, as First Key Note Speaker OTTAWA, Ontario, Aug. 3, 2016 /CNW/ -- GTEC, Canada's internationally recognized forum for enabling and celebrating information and communication technology leadership, innovation and impact in Canada's public sector, today announced the first key note speaker to take the main stage of its flagship conference from November 1 to 3, 2016 at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa. Sandra Cascadden, Nova Scotia's Associate Deputy Minister of Internal Services and CIO, will launch the final day of GTEC with an overview of the Shared Services Initiative that is transforming public service delivery in the province. A key architect, Ms. Cascadden will engage in an armchair discussion with GTEC Executive Director Michele Lajeunesse, and discuss the value of this approach, key progress and lessons learned. Once fully implemented, this initiative is expected to save the province millions of dollars per year. The Shared Services Initiative aims to improve the delivery of high quality, efficient, and sustainable administrative and support services, while addressing growing fiscal pressures facing the provincial government. It addresses six key public services including: financial services; building management; human resources; Information Technology; supply chain management and procurement; and construction project services. Ms. Cascadden will describe how the province is consolidating these functions within three strategic pillars: service centres of excellence; streamlined transactional processing; and client services. This activity is occurring in parallel with government restructuring, a review of economic development mechanisms, and the ONE Nova Scotia 10-Year Action Plan. Ms. Cascadden will also emphasize a key differentiator of this strategic initiative: unprecedented collaboration. The Shared Services Initiative engages and aligns more than 300 leaders across Nova Scotia. This includes decision-makers at more than 20 government departments, five crown corporations, Nova Scotia Health Authority, IWK Health Centre and eight school boards. Leveraging strong public service vision and leadership by laders such as Ms. Cascadden, this interprovincial cooperation is a first for Nova Scotia – and it is generating results.
