Mercedes Kerr Named Executive Vice President - Business Development

Welltower Inc. (NYSE:HCN) today announced the promotion of Mercedes Kerr to Executive Vice President - Business Development. In this role, Ms. Kerr will lead business development activities to identify, build and manage relationships with health systems, seniors housing operators, real estate developers and financial institutions to grow Welltower's high-quality health care property portfolio. She will serve as an Executive Officer of the company, joining a senior leadership team that is recognized throughout the industry for its depth of experience and long-term track record.

"Mercedes has established strong and enduring partnerships across our industry, is a well-recognized health care real estate professional and is working to advance the company's strategy to promote innovative care delivery models designed to improve people's wellness," said Welltower CEO Thomas J. DeRosa. "This promotion recognizes Mercedes' outstanding leadership of our business development efforts to date and her success in expanding our relationship-based investment platform."

Ms. Kerr will continue to play a key role as the company's representative to important industry groups through her participation on the Executive Committee of the American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA), the Board of Counselors for the University of Southern California's avis School of Gerontology, and the Board of the California Assisted Living Association (CALA).

In addition to her leadership of Welltower's business development team, Ms. Kerr also directs many of Welltower's strategic business relationships. For example, she manages the company's partnership with Hines, a privately-owned global real estate investment firm, through which Welltower is developing a 15-story senior living community at 139 E. 56th Street to address the vastly under-served aging population in midtown Manhattan. As is the case with all of Welltower's development initiatives, the assisted living and memory care community in New York City will offer the highest quality of care and the latest in health care innovation, while creating an environment focused on wellness.

Prior to joining Welltower in 2008, Ms. Kerr served as Vice President, Acquisitions at HCP, Inc. and before that as a member of the consulting division of Ernst & Young LLP, previously known as E&Y Kenneth Leventhal. She began her career in real estate development in her native Mexico. Ms. Kerr graduated from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico and obtained a Master of Real Estate Development degree from the University of Southern California.
