Yahoo! JAPAN Deploys MobileIron for Unified Management of Company-Owned Devices

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- MobileIron (NASDAQ: MOBL), the stand-alone EMM leader, today announced that Yahoo! JAPAN Corporation (Yahoo! JAPAN) has deployed MobileIron's enterprise mobility management (EMM) platform to secure and manage a large volume of company-owned devices across a range of operating systems.

Yahoo! JAPAN provides each employee with an iPhone for work. Previously, the company used a mobile device management (MDM) platform to manage 6,000 iPhones for employees, 3,000 Mac-based devices for content development and 8,000 Windows-based devices for administrative work. Additionally, the company used hundreds of Android devices used for service validation. Yahoo! JAPAN not only had to manage this broad range of devices, but it also deployed an app to handle all of the security updates. In the case of the Mac devices, operating system upgrades could be downloaded by the user, which meant the operating system could be upgraded before company support for the new version had been put in place.

In order to more efficiently manage this large volume of devices with a range of Android, iOS, and Windows operating systems, Yahoo! JAPAN examined several EMM solutions. Yahoo! JAPAN

Kazuya Uchida, who works in the internal infrastructure department of Yahoo! JAPAN's service headquarters, revealed the back story of the MobileIron installation.

"MobileIron's platform was attractive to us because it had all the features we needed and it is compatible with our other systems via its API," said Uchida. "MobileIron will also enable us to adopt a BYOD approach, something that we have under consideration."

Yahoo! JAPAN decided on bringing in MobileIron in 2015, and deployed it in January of 2016.
