The Deal Announces Results of First Half 2016 M&A League Tables

NEW YORK, July 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Deal, a business unit of TheStreet Inc. (NASDAQ: TST), announced the results of its exclusive rankings of the top investment banks, law firms, PR advisers, proxy solicitors, Delaware law firms, engaged in mergers. Data collected captures advisers to target/seller and acquirer/bidder companies involving transactions announced between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2016.

"While both pre- and post-Brexit fears caused anxiety and uncertainty during the second quarter, it did not have a huge impact on M&A activity in the second quarter," said Elizabeth Harvell from The Deal. "During the second quarter, several large transactions fell through however, amid regulatory resistance, and the inability of dealmakers to reach agreement on terms. Brexit will have more of an impact as the actual political changes take place and reorganization plays out in the second half of the year."

League Table highlights:

• Goldman, Sachs & Co. took first place with 48 deals, in 30 of which it represented sellers. Barclays Capital was second with 41 deals, in 27 of which it represented buyers. JPMorgan Securities LLC came in third with 40 deals, in 23 of which it was on the side of buyers. Morgan Stanley, and Bank of America Merrill Lynch took fourth and fifth honors with 37 and 36 deals, respectively. Morgan Stanley represented sellers in 30 of its 37 deals.
  
• Aong law firms, Kirkland & Ellis LLP was the top counsel to companies, with 49 deals. Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP was second with 46 deals. Latham & Watkins LLP was third with 44 deals, Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP ranked fourth with 33 deals, and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP ranked fifth with 29 deals.
  
  
  
  
• Among Delaware firms, Richards, Layton & Finger PA came in first with 34 deals. Morris, Nichols, Arsht & Tunnell LLP recorded 18 deals, and Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP consummated 10 deals.
  
• Among PR firms, Joele Frank, Wilkinson Brimmer Katcher was first with 47 transactions, in 27 of which it represented sellers. Sard Verbinnen & Co. recorded 40 transactions , in 22 of which it represented sellers. Abernathy MacGregor Group Inc., and Kekst and Co., tied for third each with 19 transactions. Rounding up the top four, Brunswick Group LLP was involved in 17 transactions.
  
• Among proxy solicitors, Innisfree M&A Inc. was involved in 31 deals. MacKenzie Partners Inc. came in second with 17 deals. D.F. King & Co. came in third with 16 deals.
