IoT Village Announces 2016 Device List For Annual Hacker Contest at DEF CON

BALTIMORE, June 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Independent Security Evaluators ("ISE"), the elite group of security consultants and researchers who organize IoT Village, which runs at several security conferences including DEF CON 24, today announced this year's list of devices to be included in the hacking contest, which occurs August 4-7 2016 in Las Vegas.

"Security vulnerabilities are an industry issue, that plagues both major enterprises and startups in this exciting space," explains Ted Harrington, Executive Partner of ISE and one of the event organizers.

The list includes devices from Apple, Amazon, Google, Samsung, Whirlpool, LG, Motorola, Brita, ASUS, August, Blossom, Withings, Mimo, Blipcare, ZyXel, iSpy, Wink, & Parrot.  Devices cover a broad spectrum, from medical devices to drones to wearables to smart home tech.  In a related development, a handful of manufacturers have volunteered to donate products, including brands such as FitBit and Canary.

In a parallel announcement, ISE also unveiled a much-anticipated, first of its kind, security training course focused on IoT, titled Hacking the Internet of Things. "One thing that IoT Village has strongly demonstrated is that even though security vulnerabilities run rampant in connected devices, many people want to solve this problem but often don't know where to begin." says Paul Dant, Chief Strategist from ISE and one of the workshop instructors.
