Kymeta Brings The Future Of Connected Cars To Detroit

REDMOND, Wash., June 7, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Connectivity is pivotal to the future of the automotive industry. With the right technology providing access to high-speed data to every car on the road, the possibilities are endless. Kymeta®—the company delivering on the promise of global, mobile connectivity—is working to deliver broadband internet access to cars with its flat-panel antenna technology. During TU-Automotive Detroit June 8-9, Kymeta will demonstrate its revolutionary advancements in connected car technology.

Attendees will have the chance to get an early, first-hand look at Kymeta's satellite mTenna® technology, along with new in-vehicle, connected applications enabled by high-speed broadband to the car. Kymeta will also lead a panel discussion with other experts from across the industry about bringing fiber-like data speeds to automobiles. Kymeta will provide demonstrations to complement the panel discussion and encourage conversation around the massive potential for satellite-connected vehicles.

"For connected cars, satellite connectivity will usher in new technologies and services, and broader market potential for automobile manufacturers," said Tom Freeman, Senior Vice President Land Mobile, Kymeta. "Technology needs to keep pace as demand from drivers and passengers for enhanced access to entertainment, services and data while on the road continues to grow exponentially. By utilizing the excess satellite capacity, the Kymeta antenna eliminates the bandwidth and geographic limitations of current LTE and terrestrial access solutions. I look forward to demonstrating our technology live for attendees of TU-Automotive."

Joined by fellow industry enablers VoiceBox Technologies and INRIX, Kymeta's TU-Automotive Detroit break-out session will explore the idea of what connected cars now and of the future could do with access to fiber-like speeds and global coverage. It will delve into how we bridge the gap between the living room and the interstate with continuous,high-speed data to every automobile.

In the five months after making its initial industry foray in January, on-stage with Toyota at the North American International Automotive Show, Kymeta has continued to develop its mTenna prototype technology. The company has expanded its testing, reaching more than 20,000 miles of successful cross-country testing using a Toyota 4Runner vehicle connected to Intelsat's satellite service.

Additionally, earlier this month, market analysis and research firm Frost & Sullivan presented Kymeta with the 2016 New Product Innovation Award for its compact automotive antennas for satellite broadband. Frost & Sullivan recognized Kymeta's mTenna technology and design for overcoming-data congestion and security issues associated with current cellular networks, while delivering a streamlined design that embeds seamlessly into the roof of a car.

Learn more about the future of high-speed data for connected vehicles at Kymeta's TU-Automotive Detroit panel session titled 'Fiber to the Car: Making the Cloud Work for Cars' on June 9 at 11:50 a.m. in the Sapphire/Ruby Ballroom at the Suburban Collection Showplace. Demonstrations of Kymeta's flat-panel antenna will take place directly outside of the exhibition center.
