COMPUTEX Welcomes Global Media to COMPUTEX 2016


COMPUTEX, the leading global ICT show with a complete supply chain, today held a press conference in the banquet hall of the Taipei International Convention Center. Speakers welcomed an international press contingent to COMPUTEX 2016, presented the show's themes and new exhibits, and announced the winners of this year's d&i awards.

Opening remarks by representatives of the show's sponsors-Walter Yeh, executive vice president of TAITRA, and Li Chang, deputy secretary general of the Taipei Computer Association (TCA)-explained the vast appeal for information and communications technology (ICT) professionals attending this year's exhibition and conference, including new exhibits dedicated to innovative startups (InnoVEX), Internet of Things (IoT) applications (SmarTEX), and Apple (News - Alert) MFi certified products (iStyle). Mr. Yeh presented the four main themes of COMPUTEX: IoT applications, innovative startups, business solutions, and gaming, and highlighted that ths is the first year that COMPUTEX is one of the locations of the HWBOT World Tour overclocking competition. Both speakers acknowledged that the ICT industry is now moving toward the IoT, and that the IoT is the dominant theme of COMPUTEX this year.



"The new positioning of COMPUTEX this year is 'building partnerships in Internet computing ecosystems,' which reflects the importance of partnerships in the IoT and the role of COMPUTEX as a leading global venue for partnerships throughout the IoT supply chain," said Mr. Yeh. "We are pleased to announce that this year COMPUTEX includes 1,602 exhibitors from 30 countries; the number of exhibitors' countries of origin has grown by a record 36 percent; and first-time exhibitors account for nearly 23 percent of all the exhibitors."

Vito Di Bari, renowned urban designer and futurist, and one of the keynote speakers at COMPUTEX's CPX Conference, spoke next about InnoVEX, one of the show's new exhibits. InnoVEX highlights IoT startups developing the latest innovative technology and it provides a platform for matchmaking between startups and investors. Di Bari emphasized that the Internet of Things is in its early stages, and the companies who will be giants in the IoT are either startups now or have not yet been founded.


Announcement of COMPUTEX's d&i award winners

The press conference concluded with the announcement of the winners of this year's COMPUTEX d&i awards for product design and innovation. Ralph Wiegmann, managing director, International Forum Design (iF), which partners with TAITRA in organizing and executing the d&i awards, introduced the d&i awards and the jury of the world's top industrial designers who chose their favorites from more than 250 submissions based on criteria including aesthetics, innovation, practicality, execution, usability and ergonomics. This year's gold winners are:

  • Flux Technology - the Flux Delta 3D printer won in the category of wearable technology/smart applications and products.
  • HTC (News - Alert) -HTC's Vive VR equipment won in the gaming hardware category; the HTC Desire 530 smartphone won in the network and communications products category.
  • TPV - GAMA, TPV's POS system, won in the computer systems category; TPV's U Surfing curved display won in the category of displays and audio/video.

The d&i awards also includes a d&i Rising Star award for the first time, to encourage innovative design from startups established after January 1, 2011 and to increase global market awareness of startups and help raise their brand recognition. The winner of the inaugural d&i Rising Star award is:

  • TheWISO - WISO SafSmart Whistle SOS (News - Alert) notification alarm, which is in the wearables technology and smart applications/products category.
