Background information

The Annual IT Event that is Known Around The World -- the China International Software & Information Service Fair

The China International Software & Information Service Fair debuted in 2003. The event, approved by China's State Council, is co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and the Government of Liaoning Province, and organized by the Municipal Government of Dalian and China Association of Trade in Services in June every year in Dalian, China. The fair focuses on and actively engages in discussions concerning the industry, technology, talents, capital, the market as well as policies and regulations. Over the years, the fair has succeeded in building a highly effective service platform for governments, industries and companies in and outside of China through a combination of exhibits, forums, events and online services, and has become China's top software and information services fair. According to available statistics, over 100,000 professional visitors from 49 countries on 5 continents, including the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany, Australia, Russia, Egypt, India, Japan, South Korea and Singapore, have visited the fair. Nearly 100 of the world's top 500 software companies, including Intel, Microsoft, IBM, SAP, NTT, Hitachi and Wipro, over half of China's top 100 software companies as well as over 6,000 small and medium-sized software companies in and outside of China have participated in the event. Some 50 industrial organizations from almost 30 countries have established long term collaborations with the fair. Large companies from over 30 Chinese provinces in addition to numerous local firms make an appearance at the fair every year -- the fair is generally considered as the annual gathering of the software industry in China.

A well-grounded success for Dalian -- the home of the China International Software & Information Service Fair

The locale of the event, Dalian, is a coastal city in Northern China. Referred to as the "Northern Pearl", Dalian is one of the regions in China to witness the earliest and most rapid development of the software and information services industries. Multinational companies, many of which are Fortune 500 firms, have, along with many of China's leading companies and numerous local firms have chosen to locate in Dalian, forming an important business cluster. The city lays claim to several firsts: one of the first in China to become a base for services outsourcing, one of the first in the country to form a software industry cluster focused on innovation as well as China's only "National Software Industry Globalization Demonstration City". The number of software companies has grown to over 2,000, while the number of developers living in the immediate area now exceeds 200,000. The city was the first in Northeastern China to serve as a pilot region for e-commerce after the Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone was opened in early 2016. Enabled by the "Internet Plus" initiative, a government program to spur the leveraging of the internet by manufacturers, Dalian expects to see more of its traditional industries undergo a transformation, attract more companies of all sizes, and promote the development of new forms of foreign trade. In the meantime, with the presence of well-established industries including machinery, electronics, petrochemicals, textiles and clothing, metallurgy and building materials manufacturing, food, and pharmaceuticals, Dalian plans to actively develop B2B cross-border e-commerce that features transactions of raw materials and other commodities in bulk, expand imports and exports, and promote a comprehensive revival of the old industrial base.
