Cradlepoint Leads SDN Market with Agile LTE Connectivity

Cradlepoint, the global leader in software-defined 4G LTE network solutions for enterprises, announced today that 451 Research named it a leader in the emerging SD-WAN market. The company simplifies and improves the way enterprises connect their people, places, and things by enabling more resilient and optimized networks and services. Cradlepoint recently announced a technology integration that brings the benefits of SDN and cloud computing to 4G LTE (News - Alert), broadband, and MPLS WANs. The resulting platform addresses the need for more agility, flexibility, and speed in network management so that services are less complex, lower cost, and easier to turn up and down.

In the 451 Research report, analysts Peter Christy and Christian Renaud (News - Alert) note that, traditionally, the enterprise WAN is challenging to manage because of the diverse devices and services it supports, as well as the fact that many business locations are remote and therefore unsupported by the WAN. Additionally, access to WAN devices is most convenient via the WAN itself, requiring tedious rounds of contact with each individual dvice to make updates across the network. Software-defined WAN solutions provide a more agile approach to networking by allowing the existing network to be retained and used for data transport and new centrally-controlled software is added at the edge that automates management activities. LTE and cellular networks can be an invaluable addition to enterprise WANs because of its use as day one deployment technology and its ability to meet dynamic capacity requirements. The report named Cradlepoint as a "pioneer and market leader in the use of LTE technology for data networks."1

"Vendors that were included in our report are proving that software-defined WAN solutions deliver significant and immediate benefits. These include the automation of standard tasks and regulatory requirements, the optimization of physical resources, and the ability to create logical WAN traffic paths that are better than an individual physical link," said Christian Renaud, research director, 451 Research (News - Alert). "LTE-based solutions, like Cradlepoint's, have become a more desirable form for connecting the WAN because they eliminate long deployment and turn up times associated with hard wired lines. Additionally, LTE can go where wired lines cannot, which is crucial in supporting in-vehicle networks, the Internet of Things, and a growing remote and mobile workforce."

"There are a multitude of new demands on the business network, stemming from public cloud computing, SaaS (News - Alert) application access and enablement, mobile devices, M2M, and IoT, and Cradlepoint is dedicated to simplifying enterprises' ability to support these network trends," said Ryan Allphin, CTO, Cradlepoint. "Our software-defined LTE technology delivers a more agile, fluid, and flexible approach to networking by providing a secure, always-on overlay connection. This enables enterprises to rapidly create, complement, augment, and extend connectivity securely on top of existing WAN infrastructure. As a result, our customers realize more scalable and reliable connectivity for each employee, guest, location, and device."
