Securus Announces Third DOC Facility to Approve/Accept Its Managed Access Systems (MAS) Technology

DALLAS, May 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigation, corrections and monitoring, announced that, after exhaustive testing by the prisons involved, it has secured the final acceptance by all three (3) Department of Corrections (DOC) facilities for Managed Access Systems (MAS) installed.  Furthermore, Securus will have contracts for four (4) additional facilities to be installed by October, 2016.  MAS distinguishes between legitimate wireless device use and allows those calls/messaging to proceed in a normal way, but does not allow contraband units/signals to leave the facility.  It represents the only technology that is virtually 100% foolproof.

Securus Technologies Inc.

Securus has made a +$40 million investment in MAS with its purchase of CellBlox and its exclusive agreement to deploy technology developed by Vanu Tactical, Inc., and is committed to making additional investments in this area to help correctional agencies eliminate their number one challenge – contraband cellphones.

"Our software/radio technology will allow Securus' customers to address the illicit cell phone problem today, and well into the future," said Richard A. ("Rick") Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Securus Technologies.  "We not only have the exclusivity in the United States to the Vanu Tactical MAS products, but now own all of the technology of CellBlox, Inc. – and that further expands our MAS product set with more people and more sophisticated hrdware and software.  We wanted to be the #1 provider of this technology and with the full testing and acceptance of our MAS technology at multiple DOC prison locations, we became the first provider to have our equipment tested AND ACCEPTED in a live state prison environment.  That is a very big deal for us and proved the MAS technology solution that we offer.  There are a few pretenders here with MAS technology, but none have tested/approved corrections technology which says to me that their solutions do not work at a high reliability level," said Smith.

"MAS is a perfect complement to our high-tech software based product set – we want to help make the prisons and jails in the United States safe, secure, and productive environments for corrections and law enforcement as well as for inmates.  We can assist in getting inmates educated and ready to get back into society better prepared to stay out of that environment for good.  Getting contraband out of facilities is part of the solution – so we like our investments in MAS and have the best product set that exists in our industry to accomplish that solution."

"MAS systems do not usually stand on their own economically – but when we combine them with inmate audio communications, video, inmate funding, jail management systems, electronic medical records, grievance reporting, data analytics, parolee GPS tracking, location based services, inmate tablets, electronic books, and inmate education/job searches – that is a bundle of products that helps everyone," said Smith.

"We and our facilities have tried ferromagnetic detection, body 'wanding,' TSA types of checks, dog detection, and the only technical solution that works 100% of the time is to grab the contraband signals off the air and prevent them from escaping the perimeter of the jail or prison.  That is the best and only solution for our customers that is safe and secure.  My advice – install a MAS system and do not compromise – get the best technology available in the world and get it from Securus," concluded Smith.
