ECS Selects Copyright Clearance Center's RightsLink® Platform to Handle Article Processing Charges for its Open Access Publications

Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), a firm dedicated to creating global licensing and content solutions that make copyright work, announces that ECS (The Electrochemical Society) has chosen to manage Article Processing Charges (APCs) for its Open Access publications using CCC's RightsLink® platform from within its implementation of the EJPress online manuscript submission and peer review system.

RightsLink streamlines the entire author free transaction for Open Access charges, page charges, color charges, and more, giving publishers an author-centric workflow powered by a robust pricing, discount and collections engine. For over a decade, publishers of all sizes have depended on RightsLink's powerful transactional service to facilitate permissions requests for copyrighted articles, images, mobile and new media content right from their websites.

"ECS is a terrific example of a society publisher who is carefully crafting a production and APC (News - Alert) workflow that recognizes authors who are also members of their Society," said Jennifer Goodrich, Director of Product Management, CCC. "This is essential to achieving author satisfaction given that Open Access puts new responsibilities on authors for paying and tracking APCs. RightsLink's integration into the EJPress workflow enables ECS to do just that."

"Open Access is an integral part of ECS's mission to disseminate our scence and remove barriers to the important knowledge we publish," said Mary Yess, Deputy Executive Director, ECS. "Our Author Choice Open Access program has been very well received and has grown tremendously. RightsLink is helping to remove more barriers to OA publishing by making it easier and simpler for our authors to claim their article credits."

EJPress (Patent #7,620,555B1) was developed by eJournalPress, which provides hand tailored software through continuous innovation and individualized customer support solutions in an effort to promote science and scholarly publishing.

CCC recently announced that publishers can offer physical reprints and ePrints to their authors directly through RightsLink via a partnership with Sheridan. The platform can support author reprints for any article the publisher chooses to make available.

As part of its commitment to education, CCC regularly updates its Open Access Resource Center in collaboration with the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP). The Center is a curated set of links to the latest Open Access news, reports, industry whitepapers, webinars and websites.
