Arbella Donates $77,000 to Project Bread's Walk for Hunger, Celebrates Ninth Year as Major Corporate Sponsor

The Arbella Insurance Foundation proudly served as a major sponsor for Project Bread's annual Walk for Hunger for the ninth year in a row on Sunday, May 1. An impressive 421 registered Team Arbella walkers, including Arbella Insurance Group employees, family members and friends, took part in the annual hunger relief and prevention walk. This year's new scenic route through Boston and Cambridge covered 10 miles along the Charles River, and the Walk is expected to raise $3 million to support the more than 255,000 food insecure households in Massachusetts.

Team Arbella once again earned a spot as one of the Walk's top corporate participants and top fundraising team, raising more than $27,000 for the cause. Combined with the Arbella Insurance Foundation's $50,000 Transportation sponsorship, the company's overall donation totaled more than $77,000. In the nine years they have participated, Team Arbella and the Arbella Insurance Foundation have donated a combined $820,400 to the Walk for Hunger.

"Hunger affects thousands of our neighbors across New England. Through Project Bread and the annual Walk for Hunger, we do our part to help ensure that every family has access to healthy, nutritious food," said Jenn Reale, captain of Team Arbella. "We are so proud of our Arbella family - they continue to rally behind the Walk and give back to our neighbors in need. It's incredibly moving to unite with more than 400 coworkers in support of such a universal cause."

"Our walkers and supporters are the real stars of the annual Walk for Hunger, and we are grateful to Arbella for more than 20 years of support," said Ellen Parker, executive director of Project Bread. "Not only is Arbella a top corporate participant and top fundraising team each year, but Arbella's employes are truly invested in the cause and their enthusiasm and dedication is unparalleled, coming out in full-force for the Walk despite the rainy weather. Hunger is a very personal experience, and support from our partners makes it possible for Project Bread to provide multiple solutions to hunger that meet people where they are. We work to build community food security to ensure that every family has ready access to the healthy, nutritious food they need."

Employees from Arbella's Auburn, Boston, Brockton, Fall River, Methuen, Quincy, Randolph, Taunton and Wakefield offices participated in the 48th annual Walk for Hunger. The event, which started in Boston in 1969, is the country's oldest continual pledge walk and raises funds to build sustainable, community-based solutions to address the problem of hunger. This year, Project Bread added a 5K run that kicked off the event. The Walk begins and ends in Boston Common, with more than 2,000 volunteers and 40,000 people participating each year.
