Being a CMO is a fun job. It is creative, analytical and you get to work with really talented people. Yet, there are some things that marketers do that not only drive a CMO crazy, but are just not great marketing techniques. In this humorous session, Bryan walks through 15 things from operations to strategy that you should never say or do in order to keep your CMO happy, but most importantly, to keep your marketing team on the right track.

A 20+ year high-tech veteran, Bryan has spent the last 11 years working in datacenter infrastructure and operations companies. He came to SmartBear from Dell (News - Alert) where he worked for the CMO of Dell Software Group to expand high velocity sales and marketing processes across the Dell software portfolio. He joined Dell after the acquisition of VKernel, where he served as CMO. Prior to VKernel, Bryan was at NetApp where he was the general manager of the storage virtualization business unit. Under his leadership, the group experienced record growth, expanded engineering operations to India and built global awareness for NetApp's industry leading storage virtualization solutions.

Prior to NetApp, Bryan was VP of Marketing at Onaro where he established the company as a leader in storage management software and built the marketing processes that supported the company's profitability and successful acquisition by NetApp in 2008. Before Onaro, he was the VP of Product Marketing and Strategy at server blade virtualization pioneer, Egenera. At Egenera, Bryan worked with early adopters of infrastructure and server virtualization technologies in the financial services industry as the company scaled from one to several hundred customers. Early career experience includes various sales and marketing management positions at FairMarket, Trellix and Sybase (News - Alert).

Bryan holds a bachelor's degree in systems engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master's degree in business administration from Stanford University. He blogs on measuring marketing effectiveness at www.storymetrix.com and has published the book, "Digital CMO's Guide to Marketing Measurement - Think Like a Submariner for Operational Success," available from Amazon. He is a frequent industry speaker appearing at previous Marketing Nation Summits and Inbound Conferences. Follow him on Twitter (News - Alert) @VK_Bryan.
