Twitter Announces Ability to Save Periscope Broadcasts Beyond 24 Hours

SAN FRANCISCO, May 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Twitter today announced that it is rolling out a significant update to its Periscope live video app in the coming weeks. Periscope has become an indispensable broadcast tool for journalists, musicians, athletes and everyday people to share the world around them. New features being added include the ability to save broadcasts beyond 24 hours, and a new way to search that makes it easy to find broadcasts – both live streams and replays – across several new categories, such as Music or Travel. The Periscope update also gives people the ability to broadcast live directly from a DJI drone.

Twitter's Periscope Update Includes Ability to Save Broadcasts Beyond 24 Hours, New Search Features & DJI Drone Integration

"We've seen incredible growth in our community and the number of live broadcasts created on Periscope over the past year," said Periscope CEO and co-founder Kayvon Beykpour. "People are using Periscope to share what's happening in the world around them, so we felt it was time to evolve beyond the restraint of 24 hours and allow this content to stay in the public record. We're excited to release this capability along with a new way for people to search for broadcasts."

The new search button is accessible from the Global List and will allow people to search live broadcasts and replays by topic o title. When the search button is selected, the list auto-populates with popular topics including Food, Travel, Music, and First Scope, a topic to welcome new broadcasters into the community. Leveraging the existing integration with the GoPro HERO cameras and the newly enabled DJI Drone broadcast functionality, Periscope is also launching a dedicated GoPro and Drones featured channel.

In the coming weeks, Periscope broadcasts will also start permanently saving by default for everyone, both in their Periscope profiles and on Twitter. People will be able to delete their broadcasts at any time, and will have the option in settings to auto-delete broadcasts after 24 hours. Periscope is putting the control in the hands of the broadcaster, and the ability to save broadcasts will provide viewers access to more quality live and replay content. Availability
The updates will be available in the coming weeks. The ability to save Periscopes beyond 24 hours and broadcast search will be available on iOS and Android. The ability to broadcast from a DJI drone will only be on iOS.
