SOASTA: Hershey's, Teleflora and Massage Envy Among Worst Performing Websites for Mother's Day

SOASTA (News - Alert), the leader in performance analytics, has announced the results of its Mother's Day Online Shopping Performance Study, which evaluated the online performance of the sites shoppers are most likely to visit when buying gifts for the special moms in their lives.

Using its Consumer Performance Index (CPI), which measures website performance and user engagement, SOASTA ranked websites from leading chocolate brands, flower stores, lingerie lines, photo books, spas and hair salons, greeting card stores, jewelry lines and other favorites to determine the winners and losers on Mother's Day.

This is important because, according to the National Retail Federation, Mother's Day is the third largest retail holiday in the U.S., and SOASTA warns that etailers in particular should be ready for consumers rushing to buy gifts for their loved ones online.

Top Performing Websites on Mother's Day

1. Perfume.com
2. Hallmark.com
3. Fragranceshop.com
4. PaulMitchell.com
5. BurkeWilliamsspa.com
6. Ulta.com
7. AmericanGreetings.com
8. MaryKay.com
9. Papyrusonline.com
10. 1800flowers.com

Worst Performing Websites on Mother's Day

1. Teleflora.com
2. 123greetings.com
3. ThingsRemembered.com
4. MassageEnvy.com
5. Hersheys.com
6. Bathandbodyworks.com
7. Ghiardelli.com

8. Drizly.com
9. Sallybeauty.com
10. Someecards.com

Of the categories indexed, SOASTA found that chocolate is not the crème de la crème for Mother's Day this year, with two favorites in the category - Hershey's and Ghirardelli - among the worst performing websites. Nestle's website was neither in the top performing nor worst performing ranked websites, and Dove Chocolate's website didn't generate enough traffic to be ranked in the top 500,000 global sites, and, therefore, its performance rating could not be assessed.

The flower store category also turned up on the list of losing websites this Mother's Day, with Teleflora coming in as the #1 worst performing websites out of all that were studied. And those who are shopping online for a spa gift this Mother's Day should consider picking Burke Williams over Massage Envy, according to SOASTA's Online Shopping Performance Study.

Among the best performers this Mother's Day were popular online sites for perfume and beauty purchases, including Ulta, Perfume.com and Fragranceshop.com. Mother's Day mainstays Hallmark and 1-800-Flowers also made the top performing websites list.

In a recent survey about website performance, SOASTA found that 70 percent of Americans' browsing behavior would be affected if websites had performance "grades," and that percentage increases to 81 percent of the Millennial women polled.

"Consumers expect flawless website performance, especially when the happiness of the special mothers in their lives is on the line," explained Ann Sung Ruckstuhl, SOASTA Chief Marketing Officer. "So, if moms are expecting flowers or chocolate for their special day, they better hope that their loved ones aren't shopping online at the last minute!"

About SOASTA's CPI

The SOASTA CPI is a metric that evaluates website performance as measured by user engagements to provide a single effectiveness score. The CPI measures speed and evaluates user reaction via bounce rate. With the CPI, SOASTA measures the experience of a digital site by benchmarking it against real user performance data from high-traffic internet sites monitored by SOASTA, including 50 of the Top 100 internet retailers, and condensing it into a single score to help businesses determine how their website performance impacts consumer engagement.
