Winton Announces Opening of Data Science Center in San Francisco

Winton announced today that it is opening a data science center in San Francisco, expanding the British-based firm's global footprint to include the West Coast of the United States.

Winton's San Francisco office will be home to a team of data-scientists, focused on expanding Winton's proprietary data sets, and exploring new applications for the firm's expertise in pattern recognition and statistical inference. The San Francisco office will also support Winton Ventures, the group's VC arm, which invests in data and technology start-ups.

"My entire career has been spent in a field they call systematic investing, which has now converged with all those areas of activity for which the Bay Area is so renowned: big data, machine learnin, pattern recognition, and artificial intelligence. Winton's research effort is already global, and our physical presence in San Francisco will allow us to access the impressive talent pool here," said David Harding, Founder and CEO.

"Winton's experience and success at commercializing data analysis gives us a great platform for building out new commercial applications in the field of finance and beyond," Harding added.

The Winton San Francisco office is located at 807 Montgomery Street in the Jackson Square neighborhood. The San Francisco office will ultimately employ between 30 and 40 data scientists.
