Lilburn and Marietta Police Departments Choose BodyWorn™ As Their Body-worn Camera Solution

ATLANTA, April 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Utility, Inc. announced that BodyWorn™, the only police body camera system that provides policy-based recording and automatic video redaction will be deployed by the Lilburn and Marietta Police Departments, both based in the Atlanta area. Lilburn and Marietta are the latest in a growing list of police agencies to adopt the smart capabilities that BodyWorn™ offers.

Utility's BodyWorn(TM) is the only police body camera system that provides policy-based recording and automatic video redaction

"As an Atlanta-area company ourselves, we're honored to provide the Lilburn and Marietta Police Departments with 21st century law enforcement capabilities," said Robert McKeeman, CEO of Utility. "The manually operated clip-on cameras offered by other vendors distract officers-- the officer may forget to turn it on or the camera can fall off or get knocked off when an officer runs or gets into an altercation.  A perpetrator has a strong incentive to try to destroy a clip-on camera that has just recorded them breaking the law.  An officer wearing a body camera but not actually recording usable video of an incident is worse than having no body camera at all.  Police accountability and transparency require the most secure and reliable video recording.Only our BodyWorn™ camera provides this.  Police officers should focus on protecting and serving the public rather than being videographers. Our goal is to help prevent situations from turning into incidents, and for officers to go home safely at the end of their shifts."

The Lilburn Police Department has deployed 30 BodyWorn™ cameras and 30 Rocket™ vehicle routers. Along with policy-based recording, each officer has real-time, two-way communications with Central Dispatch. This advanced feature, which comes standard with all BodyWorn™ cameras, enables "Officer Down" emergency alerts to be automatically sent to Central Dispatch with the officer's exact location—even if  an officer becomes incapacitated.  Central Dispatch can also send "Be on the Lookout" (BOLO); Silver and Amber alert with photos; and text descriptions to one, several, or all officers on duty, or all officers within a Geo-Fence zone. Video can also be live streamed to Central Dispatch based upon priority and department policy.

The Marietta Police Department has purchased 142 BodyWorn™ units and 70 in-vehicle cameras. In addition, the Department has purchased 130 Rocket™ integrated vehicle communication systems, turning each patrol car into a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. This enables the police department to take advantage of Utility's state-of-the-art Rocket IoT™ system, which automatically synchronizes video captured from In-Vehicle and BodyWorn™ cameras. Video from all cameras is accessible on Utility's AVaiLWeb™ video management platform, providing a single integrated storage, search, and view of all video related to an incident. The City of Marietta also opted to purchase 25 in-vehicle cameras for the Marietta Fire Department.

The BodyWorn™ software operates on a 4G-LTE smart phone embedded into the officer's uniform.  The smart phone supports up to 4K resolution video capture, multiple microphones for high quality audio, Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS position reporting, 3 axis accelerometer for detecting rapid motion, Bluetooth® wireless technology, and Near Field Communications. BodyWorn™ software  includes a Rules Engine, which allows departments to configure cameras to reliably adhere to the department's specific video recording policies.

BodyWorn™ includes Smart Redaction™ at no additional cost.  Smart Redaction™ automatically identifies and blurs faces, body parts with identifiable tattoos, and other selected objects in a video to protect citizen and police officer privacy. This unique capability allows a police department to quickly and reliably redact video to respond to media and FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests, and to prepare video for use in Court.  Extensive manual labor to redact videos is eliminated, which allows law enforcement agencies to protect citizen and police officer privacy while ensuring accountability and transparency at low cost.
